Really an unbelievable story if the allegations are true. These are not just cops, three are very high-ranking police officials with the Highway Patrol Group, probably analogous to State Troopers or Highway Patrol in the US.

"CEBU CITY - Five officials of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) Central Visayas now face criminal complaints for their alleged involvement in the ambush that killed lawyer Noel Archival and two of his staff members.

A joint team from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Central Visayas and Special Investigation Task Group Archival filed Tuesday multiple murder and frustrated murder against the HPG 7 officers before the Office of the Cebu Provincial Prosecutor.

Named respondents were Senior Supt. Romualdo Iglesia, HPG 7 director; Chief Insp. Eduardo Mara, HPG provincial chief; Senior Supt. Joselito Lerion, HPG 7 Special Operations Team head; SPO4 Edwin Galan, HPG 7 custodian; and Police Officer 1 Alex Bacani. The complaints were filed less than two months after Archival, his aide Candido Miñoza and his driver Alejandro Jayme, were ambushed in Coro, Dalaguete town last February 18."

By all means folks read the rest of the story provided in the link that Mike gave ..... talk about an elaborate scheme to hide the crime .... it reads like something out of a Perry Mason novel ..... I hope they hang-um IF they ever find them guilty .... but we all know what strange things happen here in da Phils .... :mocking:

:cheersty:

So we are to believe that the cops are corrupt (believable if you have seen them work) and that the NBI is lead by some Elliot Ness wannabe?  I think not.  Check this link to see the NBI officials are just as corrupt so this could easily be a case of pot calling kettle black and we shall see who has the tar and feathers soon enough.

Well, if they did manufacture evidence they sure did a good job: the logbook from the HPG vehicle impound lot showing the vehicles used in the crime were driven out just before the murder and returned just after (the security guard was ordered by one of the accused not to log it but another policeman countermanded it), extra plates, legal documents involving the lawyer found inside one of the impounded cars, ballistic evidence positively matching shell casings at the scene with weapons found in the vehicles in the police lot, CCTV footage of the vehicles taken at a nearby beach resort, and the eyewitness account of the surviving victim who only lived because he "played dead".

Wow governments officials charged with murder. They could be in jail all weekend before going back to their jobs with full pay on Monday just like the Immigration official in Mandaue Cebu a few months ago.

Is that what happened to Mr Abellon? I wasn't able to find anything past the articles on his arrest a year ago for attempting to extort p25k from a foreign tourist. But that's not exactly the same thing as multiple murders is it?

As is often the case here, there's is more to this story than meets the eye. I have it on very good authority that another lawyer is strongly suspected of being connected to this murder.

I only saw one article on his arrest too. Just doing one initial article with no follow ups seems to be normal reporting in the Philippines. I don't remember who the forum member was that said he was back at work in his office in Mandaue the following Monday but it could probably be found by doing a search of the subject.

Extortion is not the same as murder but its still a serious crime that should be punished especially when committed by a government official. He was found guilty of extortion before so why was he still a government employee working in Immigration?  He was just moved from one office to another one.

Are you talking about him, who I thought was moved to Dumaguete immigration office, because he has a home there, but an other member told he DON'T work in the Dumaguete immigration office?

If so, he still work - at least back then -  with immigration   :1 (103):   - but not in the Dumaguete immigration office  :)

How can they believe they will reduce corruption, when they just move even the biger corruption criminal...?   :1 (103): :bash:   The one I talk about demanded around 25 000 pesos from EACH to give them the VISA they had applied too...

Topic is NBI and police,  not BI.
