Paranaque: Any "liveable" But Cheap Areas?

I am planning a move to the Philippines in one year or so. I really want to live in Lipa City, but circumstances may require me to live in or around Paranaque for six months.

I currently earn my living playing Internet poker. I had planned on continuing Internet poker in the Philippines on a site now inaccessible within the U.S. (due to...you guessed it...government regulation). However, Internet poker is getting tougher every year and is likely to die out soon.

Thus, I am going to transition back into live poker. (That was all we had when I first started playing in 1996!)

My casinos of choice will be "Resorts Worlds" and "Solaire" in Paranaque. I will be playing five long days a week initially. The drive from Lipa City is about an hour in good traffic from what I've researched. I don't want to worry about that much traveling in my early days in the Philippines. So I've decided to live in or around Paranaque.

Paranaque and surroundings isn't my idea of paradise, but it will be a novelty for me and I will certainly enjoy my time there. After all, it's in the Philippines!

Does anyone have suggestions of halfway decent areas in which to live for under 10k pesos? The lower the better. I will be roughing it the first few months...not because I absolutely need to, but just until I get my bearings and discover where I ultimately want to live.

I would prefer <20 minute public transit drive to the casinos, but would be willing to transit up to 30 minutes if the location was right.

The less crowded and more peaceful area, the better. Some trees would nice. However, if nothing like this is available within the allotted driving distance, I'll take what I can get temporarily!

Thank You!

John

P.S. I tried searching the forum for Paranaque, but got the following message several times: '>Community Forum Software by IP.Board

Not sure how you searched to get that, the forum search only found 39 but you get a much bigger result in google search as shown in pics

When I searched yesterday, there was a search option (in the quick search) "This Forum". It's not there today.

I swear I'm not on crack! Ha, anyway it's working now. One of the other members lives in Paranaque and I'm in communication with him.

Thank you for this great forum and your time and effort!

John

You are making me curious about Lipa City, John. What's so special about it ?

How does the weather compare with Tagaytay ?

Sorry I've gone off topic.

Qualification to my comments below: I have not actually been there, but I've done a lot of research over the last few months.

From the data I've viewed, the weather in Lipa City seems practically identical to that of Tagaytay. I would like to choose Lipa over Tagaytay because it is less touristy and more peaceful. Prices are cheaper and I can find a "perfect" rural-ish barangay (but not far from town) for myself to live in.

Tagaytay was originally on my long list of cities I was looking into but I received a tip about Lipa City. Everyone I have talked to about it (mostly Filipinos) think it's a great place.

John, through research on where to stay temporarily you may want to check out Pinoy pamila hoyel. It's set in from the main drag a ways and seems very quiet until you can find something to your liking. I stayed there and it's quiet and clean and reasonable (free breakfast too)-just a place to park yourself after you land for a couple weeks if needed.

Thanks Steve,

I'll keep that in mind. I have some Filipino friends in Binan City that would like me to stay with them while I search. It's a bit far away, but it will probably be more energizing to be around some friends when I'm there initially. They will also help with the search but are not familiar with Paranaque.
