mellow88 Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Hi all, I may have the opportunity to move to iloilo in the coming months for one year for work. I have several other options regarding international travel for work, however. I have spent time in the Philippines before and loved it. In somewhere like Iloilo, I was wondering what can I expect in terms of a social life? As far as I can tell, the people I would be working with there will be, for the most part, older so I would be interested in making new friends etc. I'm a 26 year old Australian male. Tukaram (Tim) Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I live in Iloilo, but am married. There is very little night life - as in bar scene (and even less "bargirls"). But there is tons of interest from cashiers etc. So dating should not be a problem. If they flirt with a fat 50 year old... you should be ok ha ha :tiphat:

Forum Support scott h Posted October 27, 2014 Forum Support Posted October 27, 2014 I'm a 26 year old Australian male. I HATE YOU, I HATE YOU, I HATE YOU!!!! :th_unfair: . To be 26 with a 57 y/o knowledge. Oh boy. My wife's family comes from ililio. I am sure you will do fine and have lots of fun and as much companionship as you desire. As Tim says you wont find olongapo type entertainment there, but trust me that type of scene is highly over rated welcome to the forum
mellow88 Posted October 27, 2014 Author Posted October 27, 2014 Haha thank you guys. I'm not really in to the bar girl scene, but hope there is a bit of youthful nightlife? Without being too crass, are one night stand scenarios ever going to be an option? I'm weighing up all scenarios as I have a possible offer in the middle east. Forum Support scott h Posted October 27, 2014 Forum Support Posted October 27, 2014 Mellow...........go to the Middle East......... If your young, relatively good looking (have 2 of all the things your supposed to), have most of your teeth, some of your hair, can hear thunder, see lightning, have a job that provides a decent wage and are SINGLE. You won't last a year. If and when you return to Aussieland you will be accompanied by a young and very pretty bride. GUARENTEED!. The gals here, as I am sure you know, are pretty, graceful, friendly, charming, family oriented but with a hint of the wild side. Your biggest challenge will be to narrow the field down to a manageable level. The phrase "one eyed dog in a butchers shop" comes to mind.
John Mogusar Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 A little bit off topic, but I visited Iloilo for a couple days. I found the town a little boring in terms of visiting, but I thought it would be a decent place to live. To be fair, I was looking more for scenic views than night life or everyday things to do. And I honestly don't mind "boring." Being anywhere in the Philippines is like a vacation to me, whether I'm working or not. I was particularly impressed by the cleanliness of the city. When I was in the Philippines, I stayed north of Cebu City. While I thoroughly enjoyed the location and the people, everyone tossed their trash on the ground without a second thought. The beautiful green landscape was littered everywhere with a ton of trash strewn about. I would take the opportunity.

A good place live - but I would not want to visit. :tiphat:
mellow88 Posted October 28, 2014 Author Posted October 28, 2014 Thanks for all the replies. It sounds nice. I suppose I can also do trips easily enough, via boat or plane for holidays. The organisation also provides a week or so back in Aus at the halfway mark. If I go for it I will be sure to let you know and shout a san miguel for your services! :cheersty:
