Medical Insurance in the Philippines

Since you are from the Philippines I wonder whether you know what large medical expenses in the West are. A couple examples:

I have several friends in their 60s but not yet 65 (when they qualify for US medicare). The cost for insurance for the guy and his wife - $2000/month.

A couple of months ago I took my wife to the ER. She wasn't that sick, but I got a bit panicked. I have good medical insurance through my employer. Our out of pocket cost for an ER visit - $1600.

So while I would agree that medical insurance in addition to Phil health is not a bad idea by comparison to medical costs in the US, costs in the Philippines can be pretty cheap.
