Popular Post Bruce Posted November 23, 2016 Popular Post Posted November 23, 2016 On this trip out to Samar I found a huge number of road projects. Both widening and concrete shoulders being built. Real heavy equipment being used instead of the usual 10 guys with shovels. Also repaving of long damaged roads. Stark difference to what I am used to. I asked why and was told that the new president had visited Samar and Catbalogan a few times and had warned all government officials that a 'lifestyle check' was coming. This means that the salary and income of any government official was going to be compared to their lifestyle, number of houses, cars, businesses, bank accounts and also in the US. If it appeared the government official was living above their means, then a further, more in depth inquiry would be made to see how this was possible. Suddenly, there are funds available for infrastructure improvements! Past road projects, funded, paid for, but never done, are now being done. And... has anyone ever seen glow-in-the-dark Mountain Dew before?
Huggybearman Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 I too have noticed a lot of road construction in and around CDO much as you have described. Work which was long overdue. Good to see! Ken
Gas Posted November 23, 2016 Posted November 23, 2016 More space for drying palay and corn The DPWH has been widening highways nationwide for the past couple of years, before Duterte came to power. The problem is it doesn't make a single difference to traffic flow, as these new areas are used for business

Those are hugely popular now and are being recycled into many things. Along National highway up north they use them along the roadside business' to flag down customers or highlight a barrier. Here, locally, a guy is making them into Christmas ornaments and selling them.
