Here in China people are very loth to touch food with their hands while eating. They use the wrapper or a paper napkin to handle sandwiches. Canapes are usually eaten with a toothpick.

I guess I have been here too long.  At some of the nicer restaurants they bring me a fork & knife and bring my wife a fork & spoon.  I have to send back for a spoon. When I went back to the US for a visit a couple years ago I got funny looks while eating everything with my spoon.  ha ha

Well, all this talk of fork, spoon vs knife. Ribs, rice, steak, pork, I'm getting hungry.  Please excuse me while I take dinner.

Of course Americans have forgotten how to use knives at the table as well. Sure, give them a steak and they'll pick up their knife and cut it into pieces, then the knife will go back down, the fork will swap to the right hand and eating will commence.............

But from my 27 year Hindu phase one must remember: the left hand cleans the body, the right hand feeds the body.

Being left handed, that poses a problem, but if I am correct, some cultures don't like to shake hands for similar reasons and prefer to touch cheek's instead.

The knife stays in my right hand at all times when eating steak, to better defend my territory!
