josta Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 We have been toying with the idea of moving to Bohol later this year; we also have a son with a Filipino wife who would move with us if we did. But my biggest concern is the instability of the South China sea; some are predicting a war there that the Philippines could get dragged in (and therefore attacked). Any thoughts? Forum Support Popular Post scott h Posted March 5, 2017 Forum Support Popular Post Posted March 5, 2017 Welcome Josta, this is a great forum to get info on a possible move to the Philippines. I am also from the states and have lived here for klose to 5 years. To be perfectly honest, war in the south china sea is way, way down on my list of possible worries when it comes to living here. Prowl around the forum a bit, get the feel for the islands and ask away
Popular Post Dave Hounddriver Posted March 5, 2017 Popular Post Posted March 5, 2017 Any thoughts we would have would be mere guesses based on the possibilities of unstable world leaders making fatal blunders. There are a few of those, Duterte, Kim Jong Un and Trump come to mind. I cannot afford to worry about every possible war that may or may not happen and I would suggest you do not worry about it either.
Forum Support Old55 Posted March 5, 2017 Forum Support Posted March 5, 2017 Fall out from whatever goes down in North Korea would be of more concern.

Judging from the "fall out" after the Fukushima disaster I would suggest that the fall out from any North Korean disaster would blow east towards the west coast of Canada and US so we should be OK here. Popular Post mogo51 Posted March 5, 2017 Popular Post Posted March 5, 2017 I see North Korea as the biggest problem facing the world at the moment IMO. KJU is a nut case.
Gratefuled Posted March 6, 2017 Posted March 6, 2017 No war unless China restricts or tries to restrict freedom of navigation in South China Sea.

IMO North Korea wants to be perceived as a threat, however it is all propaganda for domestic population control. I certainly wouldn't change any future plans or lose any sleep over a bampot leader.

That scenario is also in the minds of the US Navy 7th fleet. Meaning I wouldn't park a juicy capital ship like a Nimitz class carrier and most of her escorts in one basket. Unfortunately, South China Sea is becoming more crowded with warships on both sides exercising freedom of international passage. It only take just one accidental launch of a surface to surface missile and the bubble will burst for the whole region. It would be a dark scenario of global economic disaster. All shipping lanes and commercial air will be choked or probably killed in the crossfire -- no more Chinese products shipped to Walmart or crude oil to Japan or the whole fishing industry are forced to stay in port. There's goes my sushi. If the US or China feels threatened (the war of words in tweeting, rather than using the normal diplomatic channels), I think the safest place would be the Philippines. Philippines? President Duterte is one slick character. After a couple Russian warships visited Manila, he gave an open invitation to the Russian navy to come and visit again. Many Filipino-Chinese (rich and powerful taipans) are secret conduits to restore and maintain vital economic stability between the two nations. And finally, he publicly denounced the US is no longer a world power to be respected. Most US military activities in country, including humanitarian aid have been kicked out. As a Filipino, I think in the long run it would be a lot safer that I'm protected by the Duma gang because of the endless cold San Magoo and the locals are still friendly.....he, he. Respectfully Jake, US Navy retired and retarded. Edited March 7, 2017 by Jake
