Theres plenty of places in the world where you can get robbed or killed Bruce (even close to our home citys). Pretty sure theres plenty of turists around Puerto Princessa and El Nido. Im not to worried. I look like a bum when traveling anyways. Theres bigger fishes for them to catch :D.

You don't have to be THE target to get caught - next time you see a dolphin ask him what he thinks about tuna nets... Unlike fishermen, Terrorist do not 'catch and release', they have another way to 'dispose' of a bum catch... Am I going to run away scared of being in the Philippines? Not by a long shot. But I am not going to play in the terrorist's back yard either - including North Chicago, South LA, East Saint Louis, and West Somewhere.

(remember the German? sailor who was kidnapped and paid ransom in Africa came to the Philippines with his wife, played in the wrong back yard and where are they now?)

I wonder how meny more flight changes will PAL do before our flight in 3 months. So far they have managed 6 changes in a month.

With the last change they gave us a 20min connection time in Manila between our Palawan-Manila and Manila-Iloilo flights :D. I dont think we will make it :D.

Less than an hour might be doable if you know that airport well. I don't know any of them that well. Every airport I have ever been in I was looking for my gate or the exit and the sooner the better.

Airlines will not ticket connections below a certain time, about 55 mins I believe. They need time to transfer luggage. If you are using different airline then you are on your own.

Some airlines/airports are better than others. The best arrange ground staff at the arrival gate to meet and escort you to the connecting flight: Cathay Pacific and Qatar Airlines spring to mind. Qatar are (or were) particularly well organised, issuing colour-coded boarding cards to passengers with short connecting times.

I avoid checking baggage if I can and prefer to limit myself to what will fit into my carry-on. However next week I am flying PAL from HK to London and will be travelling with checked baggage. The connection time is a relatively relaxed 2hrs 45mins so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my bag arrives on the same flight as I do.

Many years ago (when Russia was still the USSR) a colleague of mine flew back from Moscow on Aeroflot. His dialogue with the gate agent went along the following lines.

"I'd like to check this bag in for Cairo and this one to East Berlin."

"We can't do that - you're booked to London."

"Why not? You did last time. And I didn't even ask!"

I had a friend fly Aeroflot years ago and he told me the plane could have airconditioning or take off but not both. Decisions, decisions.:89:

When I last flew out of Cebu through Manila I had a cane and when I checked into the flight they insisted I have a wheel chair.  I agreed only to not argue and they wheeled  to the gate would not take the 20 peso tip.  when we got to Manila a chair was at the gate they took Us to a special bus (yes short) drove us to another terminal called and made sure our luggage was transferred and to the planes door in the chair, again refusing a tip 100 peso. Got the same treatment in Japan.  Now I recommend using a cane whenever you travel.  All done in Manila in less than 40 minutes 15 minutes before the plan left, don't know if they would have held the plan but we were ahead of 3 other from our flight.

We have a connecting flight with PAL on one ticket. They were the ones that changed our connection time from just under 3 hours to 20 minutes. They are fully responsible.

Since its just a week sidetrip to Palawan, we dont plan to check in any luggage anyways.

Obviously they are not very responsible since a 20 min connection is really zero minutes. They will be ready to close the door and taxi to make the takeoff time (remember the listed time is for takeoff, not boarding which occurs earlier) as you are landing making it a difficult transfer even if the gates are side by side.

Sister in law had 5 or 6 phonecalls with PAL. Asked for a hotel - No. Asked for rebookig - No. I guess finally they were to tired of talking to her and did rebook us thru Manila with a 2 hour layover for free. Not my favorite airport, but atleast the plane arrives and leaves at terminal two, so i guess ill be okey :D.

But just think, you can't have those brews now Sander - bad move!!!
