Popular Post AlwaysRt Posted June 17, 2017 Popular Post Posted June 17, 2017 I was reading comments elsewhere and this question occurred to me. "Ever wonder why expats move to the Philippines to get away from their country, then spend all their time complaining the Philippines is not the same as their country?" It is much harder to find a group discussing freedom of rules, elimination of stress caused by the necessity to 'keep up with the Jones's', nosey neighbors, PC police.... than it is to find a group discussing why isn't the electric, food, water, roads, drivers, pollution, service staff.... as good as it is back home. As Bugs Bunny used to say "Silly Ain't It?"

Great point RT, and I agree,...to a point, we are used to what we are used to and when we depart from that we get fidgety I guess, we all want a relaxed retirement I am sure but taking your points Freedom of rules=chaos, which is stressful Keeping up with the jones=We are the Jones here and most people want what we have and will go to any length to get it, which is stressful Nosey neighbors? what Philippines do you live in???? Pc police = we are forced to be pc, most of the time we are hesitant to speak our minds for fear of offending and stirring up a hornets nest, which is stressful All in all I would say I am happier here in retirement than I would be in the states, but when I cant complain to my neighbors for fear of giving offense, thank goodness we can do it here. Keeping it bottled in is REALLY stressful

Keeping it bottled in is REALLY stressful I guess for me, I have traveled enough I knew what to expect regarding your points. I avoid judgmental expats and look at not offending Filipinos as respecting their culture. None of those are stressful to me. Certainly not to the level of being told and judged on what you buy and what you have and what you say and what you believe.... 'everyone' in the US thinks they have a right to tell you how to live and give you crap if you don't live the way they expect you to. From where you live to what you drive to what you wear to how much you tip...

canadamale Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 Sorta to do with this topic, todau i was walking along on my to maccas for coffee and read my paper. When I came upon a man using a cutoff saw to cut some angle iron. No gloves, glasses, only slippers and shorts on. To make matters evan worse he has a young teenage boy, probably his son, holding the steel for him. The boy is watching the saw and the sparks and metal shards are flying toward his face. I felt like walking over and slapping him upside the head. Telling him to smarten up and at least turn his face away from the cutting. I knew it would only cause i heepful of trouble, so I told myself, move along nothing to see here, move along. In canada i would of said something.

You say that but in my experience I found it the Otherway around, Each to our own I know but it is not what we say but how we say it. In the UK I would be told to F***OFF, Here I may have said Hi mate is that your son, they will answer, and just let him know, that if he loves the Boy and he will tell you he does, then why are you trying to Blind Him. people here are not normally nasty and if you think on the lines of explaining and Not telling, the Story gets better But that's me
Dave Hounddriver Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 I find people very interested in my suggestions, gf's, maids, helpers, strangers are all quite pleased when I make a suggestion in a helpful way. That is until I am out of eyesight and then they go back to doing it their own way. They made me happy by smiling at my suggestion and they are happy at doing it how they are gonna do it. Problem with going with the flow is when it stops flowing. Example: How long are you gonna go with the flow while your partner stuffs grease and garbage down the sink before it stops flowing and you get to be the one to clean out the stoppage
