stevewool Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 For the many folk who have been living over in the Philippines for a few years now has things changed and if so , for the better or worse. A few years ago you very really heard anything on the tv here in England other then Marcos . But now its on tv more then you think,China and there navy a some islands , the president and his war on drugs, isis in the Philippines, all not very good news and the more people who know one day we could be living over there, they are concerned for our safety. So has things changed in your safety since living there, dont forget though even here in England there are places you dont go too because of different people and you fear that you may be robbed or beaten.

Gerald Glatt Posted July 6, 2017 Posted July 6, 2017 Time has changed here but in the fall it goes back to normal.
Forum Support Popular Post Mike J Posted July 6, 2017 Forum Support Popular Post Posted July 6, 2017 I actually feel a little more safe after being here four years. Perhaps comfortable is a more apt word than safe. I have never felt unsafe, but I am now more comfortable because I know more people, neighbors, shop keepers, local officials, etc. You have more of a feeling of confidence as you become known in the community. Of course this assumes you become known as a "good kano". I expect the results could be the reverse if you become known as someone who is not respectful of the natives or speaks negatively of the Philippines all the time. As others point out the problem with terrorists and kidnappings is isolated to a relatively small area.

I was always worried that I would die before fall arrived and I would not get my hour back. Fortunately there is no DST here. Also the days stay basically the same length year around which I like.

Why would a war on drugs worry you, if you don't get involved in drugs? Whilst I am not there yet, will be in a very short time. Nor do I live in Marawi, so that does not affect me either. Just hoping DU30 gets just as tough on the insurgents as the drug dealer, if not more so. I see it as a shining light that there is finally an elected leader who is doing just that - leading.

Popular Post sonjack2847 Posted July 6, 2017 Popular Post Posted July 6, 2017 Here they don`t pussyfoot around with foreigners who want to change the laws. fit in or f off.I feel safer here and have had less crime committed against me or mine here than I did in England. So yes times have changed and for the better. If you believe everything you read on the news you must be mad.UK has issued a warning about travel for over here but no travel warning for London. They are starting to catch some big time drug dealers can the same be said for the UK.If you keep putting excuses in the way you will never do anything.
intrepid Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Don't believe all you read in the papers or see in the news. Nothing changing here but the time!
Popular Post robert k Posted July 7, 2017 Popular Post Posted July 7, 2017 Considering the radical extremists trying to kill people? I will be glad to leave them behind and go to the Philippines.
