It seems I am the odd one out in the family

And odd we will stay Steve, hated and loathed or respected and appreciated. Education from day 1.

Cheers, Steve.

As they do Jack, as perplexing and sad as it is wise men or fools will not change the psyche of a culture.

Cheers, Steve.

My husband gets text messages and messages on FB sometimes about requests for money from some family and neighborhood friends. He says that over time it has become easier to just ignore the requests for the most part. Even though we help or treat as is reasonable for us, many frivolous requests are just ignored. Usually to help them to save face for an in person request, he just says that he has some other issue that needed his help this month, and so he's presently "tapped out". I agree with Snowy that many refusals seem to "roll off peoples' backs--almost as if they felt "nothing ventured nothing gained" and asking was worth a shot anyway. Learning to say no at times, and not feeling guilty at all about it seems to get easier over time he says.
