Dear Members

Just saw this story. I know a few members live in these areas so from my old Navy and Police Experience I would say to keep safe and vary your routines, modes of transport and always take a table in a restaurant where you can see the door. Just my experience.

Have you noticed any difference in the areas?

Yes I think that Jack now walks to the left of the rock on the road, instead of to the right, on his way to his afternoon trek to his Sori Sori store.  As you can see, Jack is very well trained in counter terrorism haha!!!

Thank you Paul for the Topic but we have been having this sort of warnings now for 5+ years. It is always good to be reminded of these things and take a double check on our degree of Vigilance

Governments have to say these warnings even when the risk is minimal.I wonder what warnings travelers are given about the UK and the rest of Europe to me those places are more dangerous than here.

Like most things it all boils down to common sense. The risks will always be out there but for most ex pats surviving hospital treatment and Filipino food probably plays a larger part in our lives. :whistling:

Correct Kev how ever Dumaguete is seriously lacking in foreigners and many perceive these warnings to be serious. Dumaguete really needs to entice more expats, this publicity does not help.

Good Point! Here's one such example:

U. S. Embassy London
Security Message for U.S. Citizens
UK National Security Threat Level Raised to Critical

September 15, 2017

The U.S. Embassy in London informs U.S. citizens that the government of the United Kingdom raised its national security threat level to critical on Friday, September 15.  A threat level of critical means that an attack is expected imminently.

More information about U.K. threat levels is available at the MI5 website.  There is no specific information available about the nature of any expected attack.

You should review your personal security plans, remain aware of your surroundings, including local events, and monitor local news stations for updates.  Be vigilant and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security.

:89: Cheers for this but I have to wonder why a notice was not put out by the UK Embassy to citizens, we normally get them by Email But Apparently we are not worth the consideration on this, Good we can look out for each other EH?

A dive center has shut for a while in Dalaguete because a lot of Chinese visitors have stopped coming. Here in Dumaguete I have seen the number of visitors fall.

I've liked Dumaguete on my visits there.

I suspect there is nothing much to this, but folks should check the wordings on their insurance policies.
