How to say it

Polite ways of saying no. I know the more direct ones also, but sometimes we try to use the softer ones. They usually work just as well, and also leave no hurt feelings. Do you have others that work well for you ?

- Sorry, if you had asked me last week I could have done it.

- Ha ha, I am married so I have no money.

I knew a guy back home in the USA who had what I considered the best line ever; "Actually I am a little short myself and was wondering if you could help me out, but I guess we are both a little strapped for cash."

If you postpone saying yes long enough, that is the same as saying no.  So when you say "Maybe tomorrow", and we all know tomorrow never comes, the one asking will usually get the message after about a half dozen attempts and you never had to say no.  If "Maybe tomorrow" does not work for you then try "Maybe next month".

Just listen to what they say and tell them that you don't need it as for now, or tell them how much you want to go but you already have a schedule for that time. ;)
