I think your Emma may be exaggerating just a little with the language thing.

My thinking too, the lady traveled half way across the world and she understands other people  very well.

You could be right there Jack, she cannot understand why i am a tight git when her family has given so much to help each other out, she cannot understand why i will not live in the family home as it is ours too, she cannot understand why i will not go out with the other ladies for a meal chewing bones and fat, but she does understand that i love her  dearly .

can they start finding new friends and someone to talk too if they are not from that province .

We moved here 2 years ago from Cebu it took my wife about 2 weeks to start making new friends,I think it helps when you have young children when they play with the local kids.We did also know a few people here from before on our trips here.

I'm also finding it's not the understanding it's the interpretation of what you say. I've had partners that spoke very good English but when I've said something to them that in my mind is straight forward they get a nose bleed and take it a completely different way. They just don't get sarcasm regardless how obvious it is.

Moved in 2011  we live at the back of the family compound

we live in our own home which we built, the wifes sister lives in her own small house.

The Family home has remained empty since the mother died 2 years ago.

And we are slowly repairing it bit by bit , replacing window frames etc

And changing switches and sockets etc.

The wifes family ( Brother lives in Legazpi ) along with 2 sisters in law.

Another brother lives down the road, and another brother lives in the town.

In our road as we stand outside our main gate across the road is a cousin, next door is a second cousin

Across the road to the right is an Aunt, and a little further down is another cousin and yes there are lots of parties  they all respect me and there has been no problems most of them work for themselves or work for the Government in some way, so its rare we get asked for money.

I find I have to be careful with humor of most forms (other than obvious slapstick).

The words translate but the subtle meaning of the jokes often don't.
