You should be able to drive the Philippines from top to bottom in a year or two, or three, or a lot more...

Only if you are rich.  I was talking with a salesman at Jack's Suzuki dealer yesterday.  The low end Suzuki's have gone up by about 20 to 50% (depending on the model) in the last 5 years. Add in the increase in gasoline, oil and maintenance costs and those of us on fixed incomes will just have to wave as you drive by :6:

Don't forget the cost of toll fees for any top to bottom road  system.  You will also need to wait a few years for the addition of new facilities such as restaurants, hotels and gasoline stations to serve the needs of motorists.

The national government should also consider the creation of rest stops that include picnic tables and toilets.  Otherwise, motorists will make sudden stops to pee on the side of roadways. Women traditionally bring with them umbrellas as a modesty shield.

That bridge's cited cost is almost as much as an entire year's worth of Philippines GDP.

EDIT: Didn't notice it was quoted in PHP. That makes a big difference, obviously!

To stimulate jobs, what about all the laid up ferries.

If you look at the example of Mactan.  The ferry still operates and is still full most trips.  Its because the traffic up to and on the bridges is so bad that its quicker and easier to take the ferry.

EDIT:  It may even be worthwhile to put on a Ferry from Talisay to Cordova rather than build a toll bridge.

Hope it's not like this newly built bridge a mayor was inspecting. All caught on video. :shock_40_anim_gif:

That's HILLARIOUS, because no one seems to have been seriously hurt and IF there was any corruption going on :whistling::shock_40_anim_gif: then it was the recipients that got soaked.
