Forum Support Old55 Posted May 24, 2018 Forum Support Posted May 24, 2018 Two expat members recently commented they planned never to return to their home country. Curious how many here feel the same way? Follow up, who thinks of Philippines as home and their country of origin as just that?

Popular Post Snowy79 Posted May 24, 2018 Popular Post Posted May 24, 2018 It looks like I'm staying here also unless my health decides otherwise. I'm from the UK and my Forces pension isn't enough to live on but just enough so that I don't qualify for any state assistance, and it's a good 14yrs before I qualify for my state pension which again even with my Forces pension isn't enough to live on in the UK. I couldn't imagine going home and working so that those that have never lifted a finger can live off of my taxes. It's time for me to get some of my hard earned cash back. Added to this the quality of life for me is so much higher. I'm practically a non drinker and don't smoke but enjoy fresh fish, fruit and exercising in warm temperatures. Made all that little better by having a stunning Filipino partner. 9
Popular Post JJReyes Posted May 24, 2018 Popular Post Posted May 24, 2018 While there might be a desire to return to your home country, reality and circumstances might persuade you against it. Cost of living is probably the biggest issue. Another is the realization that you have changed perspective about life while those left behind have remained the same. This realization happens after the first return visit. I suspect that 50% of expats in the Philippines, after a five years stay, are highly unlikely to return home.

virginprune Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 My home is here. The UK I would never consider living in again.

How many hours to fly back and visit your Mother?

Is she independent or has other family to look out for her? Everyone's situation is different so no advice here. To add, have you ever discussed what might be your plans with her? Most likely she knows and also while you were here looking around her life went on without you. When I was still in Aus I was the only family member that lived in another part of Australia and only got to visit my mum or family about every 2 years or so and to me now it's no different if Im here in the Phils as its just more distance but nothing has changed.
