Dave Hounddriver Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 Driving down the road today, I had a typical Philippine ambulance pull up behind me with lights flashing and sirens blaring so I pulled over to let him pass. Minutes later he pulled over to let a uniformed employee get out and go into Jollibee (it was just before noon). Then the ambulance took off with more flashing and blaring. It occurs to me that I have never seen an ambulance on a Philippine road that is not using lights and sirens. And yet the Philippine people continue to give way and let them pass. Great job, being an ambulance driver, but has anyone ever seen on a Philippine road without the lights and sirens? Jollygoodfellow Posted June 21, 2018 Posted June 21, 2018 Here in Cebu city all emergency vehicles travel with lights flashing. I guess it's their rule that they must. And as noted rarely to people give way. Around my area it is only when the siren is blaring and head lights flashing and the ambulance is weaving in and out (more than normal) do people move over. Yeah, but.... Isn't the same shmo who pulls in facing forward going to: A. Have to straighten out at least once? Even then, if you are parked next to them, they will park right on the line so it is difficult or impossible to get your door open. B. When they leave, driving a big SUV (like me) in a tight parking lot, backing out, it may also take them 2 or 3 turns to get out of the spot. We have a few lots like that here so I always back in, engaging my memory of my forklift driving days. I wish I could let my wife drive a forklift as it is good practice for parking skills! C. A lot of vehicles have a back-up camera. Not many have a front-up camera! I love my back-up camera so much that I often drive around the neighborhood backwards, enjoying the camera view! Yesterday I kept moving but moved over to the shoulder to allow an ambulance to pass.
