  3. Are you suggesting a kissing booth at a dollar a smooch :-kiss: Everyone's suggestion not to do business in the Philippines, Tom...but this booth seems to be a good source of income if the Filipina is the one paying... but back to topic for me... Some folks still on the hamster wheel don't have luxury of the boots on the ground, face to face for 6+ months, etc way to get to meet and possibly have a lifelong relationship with a seemingly loving woman from the Philippines. Some don't have alternate contacts they can meet through a mutual friend or aquaintance. Some have (maybe) 2 weeks or

  4. Talk about good timing! I met a gentleman in the hotel lobby who works in the higher end of PhilHealth administration. (Wish i got his card!) He confirmed that, yes, we tourist class foreigners can get PhilHealth - just the same as a native Filipino! He told me that it was cheaper for the government to pay the insurance out than the administration costs involved when a foreigner isn't released until the bill is paid in full. Apparently there are a lot of backroom costs the government had to cover though i didn't ask what they were. And, more importantly, economically, we Expats spend much

  7. I think I would be more likely to take advise from Erma Bombeck than Gloria Steinem. I was impressed with Erma's powers of observation after she titled the book "The Grass is Always Greener Over the Septic Tank". I'm told there is no help for me anyway, it's not fatal but incurable.

  10. I miss Jack's fish and chips, used to have an Alfie's near me in Los Angeles. I have been missing Armenian Pastrami for the last 20 years since I moved from N. Hollywood Ca. that long ago. I am finding good food in the Philippines too though, usually not where you would expect it. I have become resigned to the "no stock sir" everywhere I go when I order what I want most from the menu. It will be fine though because what I eat at home is great.

  11. That my friend is very Unfortunate,( As I am sure you know, it was not meant to be taken that way at all) the one thing that you can never learn from the Internet is how freaking Thick Skinned you have to be to live here. Cheap and wonderful in many respects but......... day to day frustration can be so mind boggling. This is something that NO! Filipino will have any comprehension about until.. you are here living under the same roof. Maybe the topic has run it's course now you have found the Area you wish to Work in for your research. Your title was Help! I believe help, is what you

  12. That's where the custom comes from EN, you might (or might not be) surprised how many customs and such the Philippines share with Mexico (goes back to the Manila Galion days). We are fortunate our family plot is a short walk away, and yes we spruced it up, went and said a rosary and the wife spend the afternoon talking with friends and relatives.

Once she is exposed to northern foods like Chicago style deep dish pizza (best one I have had so far is actually made in Detroit but I haven't tried it in Chicago yet) she may just choose somewhere else to live or maybe a more central location so you both could travel and try different foods. I would guess that New York city or one of the mid-sized to large cities in California or even Florida would have good authentic food from all over the country. The main part is you both are enjoying your food adventure and sounds like you can make most of what you w

  16. Perhaps at start, but if make it clear in startup messaging, many are interested in communicate with foreigners anyway. E g exchanging of cultural differences, and if they look for a foreigner to marry or is married to one allready and try to solve "mysteries", they can be interested in learning how we think :) Some even contact ME for legal advice about FILIPIN law!!!
