I don't think he's the Plonker of the Month, I think it's the guy that paid him before the job was finished.....

You can get lucky. When I left the UK for Singapore seven and a half years ago I rented mine out within one month of leaving. The tenants paid the rent on the nose every month and reported any problems pdq so I could get them sorted (I was using letting agents). When my employers threw me out and I realised I wasn't going back (coming here instead) I decided to sell it. The tenants, who had been there for six years, bought it for near enough the asking price, the sale going through in good time with no hiccups. At least they couldn't moan about any issues arising. When I finally picked up a few things I had left there they even presented me with a bottle of wine and some chocolates!

A man I know very well who used to repair appliances plugged in his washing machine and it didn`t work. He called out an engineer as he was too lazy to do it himself. Well the engineer came and asked his wife what was the problem which she relayed to her husband who said it does not work, his wife said come and look and lo and behold the machine was working. It turned out to be the extension lead he plugged it into which was at fault which he would have checked years ago but he is too lazy now. Well it cost him 250 peso for the engineer visit so I hope he learns his lesson. THIS IS MY NOMINATION FOR PLONKER OF THE MONTH.

We have been here before and No Doubt we will go again from time to time but........ Why is it that we (The Foreigner in this case) Have to only get things done when it comes from a Shout and a lesson in "Later only" won't do. We get called aggressive, With Attitude, you name it but if our loved ones will only listen and discuss things properly, we would not have this Monthly or in my case Yearly battle of I forgot and things fester. Know what I mean guys ( Not sure you Ladies will suffer the things I am on about) Just one case in particular, I asked my Precious Princess Daughter to Clean here bicycle and Check the Tyres and Light batteries. Yes Daddy later!. Once again 1 week later at 5.30 this Morning we have an almighty issue with I can't Go OH! say I why? Cos the tyres are Spongy and I have no back Light. Hmmmmmmmm Did you check it Yesterday, I forgot to Now this has come to a bit of an issue now as of Course it is my fault. Yeah! of course, That is why I said for you to clean the bike and Prepare it for this Morning But Noooo Later only, well honey later is now here and I guess you expect me to do it all again for you to neglect for more time. Of Course when I say this is what Happens when Parents let children think everything is done by Mary Poppins. I get the OH! Mr Perfect but...... So you all know where I have been Yes? Yep to the bike man down the Road and all fixed up to be Forgotten until next time. Now of Course, after several Times of trying to Discuss the problem of my Errant Handyman/Gardner, My Wife just sacks him without asking him First, just what the problem has been, You see to me, if there is an underlying/on going problem, We need to know so we can out things right when employing another one but.... Seems Discussion and Communication are not needed as I ( She that is) knows best. Surely I am not the only one that suffers this and the constant Forgetfulness in general that can seem to only be Sorted by a Firm hand or Foot Stamping on the table or ground. Pet hate for the Month? certainly is. I for one, just don't need the extra stress of Day to Day Living that can be brought about by sheer Thoughtlessness and Lack of COMMUNICATION and DISCUSSION! when sorely needed. Jack Morning All.

Funny enough, yesterday I was with a friend on the other side of the city... he has his car in for a bit of maintenance with a back yard mechanic friend of his and we stopped in to see how it was going... he was out but his wife invited us in so i could meet the rest of the family... as soon as she found out I was single, she was on the phone to get her sister over there... I'm talking with her mom and tita and found out I'm 2 months younger than mom... the daughter who was on her way? 19... ok, 58 and 19 is just too much! But I am now her English teacher (she's studying to be a teacher but is so shy that she has trouble with English) and she is going to help me with my Bisaya... Now, to make it so there is no issue, we will meet Starbucks with her cousin... And there is the real issue... i didn't realize who she is.... Her cousin? Turns out I've known her from when I lived in Central Park... She thinks she's madly in love with me... and she's 16 years old... And her mom thinks this is a good thing? I have 2 options... Give up my friends and move from Davao - or find a girlfriend to keep them in line... i started packing my kitchen last night...

Oooh, good one. Here is my nomination. An air-con and appliance repairman used to be very good. That was before he discovered foreigners. Now he overcharges and does shoddy work. This started when my American friend started telling him how good he was and overpaying him plus tipping him. That does not work here but I can't tell him nothing, now I have to find a new service man. Anyway, here's what he did to be Plonker of the month. He came out on Sunday to install my new air conditioner. (I think he wanted to do it on Sunday so he kept all the money and did not have to give any to the boss but I am only guessing here.) Anyway, he had come by Saturday to make a list of the bits he needed for the installation. He did not get any electrical parts so come Sunday he told me the only way he could get it working was to steal the 'old' electric cord from the 'old' air conditioner and use it on the new one. I told him NO, That's not an old air con. Its already sold for 5,000 pesos as soon as the new one gets installed. He said he would come back the next day to replace the cord and it would be all good. That was 10 days ago. Add in the fact that he overcharged me and did not do as good a job as he usually did and I have to nominate him for Plonker of the Month.

There ya go. (Playing Devil's advocate here.) You caused her to lose face. Rich, spoiled, precious Princess Daughters do not clean bicycles in this country. That is the servant's job. When her friends see her getting her hands dirty they will look down their noses at her. You cannot win an argument with a female. Young or old, filipina or foreigner, they may appear to let you win but they are going to do it their own way as soon as you are looking the other way. Its life. I hate it too.

My house in the UK has been on the rental market since the 4th of May. I have turned down a few offers I have had for various reasons. A woman her husband and 2 children want to move in and have made an offer equal to the asking price. They have a good credit and I have said if I get a guarantee with insurance then they can move in.I cannot be here 7000 miles away and have to worry about the rent being paid. Anyway my fingers are crossed that this tenant is as good as the last one who was getting top marks for how the house is from potential renters. Heres hoping to a stress free let of my house.

Back in the late 90s I was working for a US company on a project in Greater China. I remember the regional head of audit telling me that, while it was illegal for American companies overseas to pay bribes, "facilitation payments" were OK. A decade earlier with another company I was helping our partners in a Southern European country prepare a bid for some government business. One of my local colleagues made the following statement which I have always treasured, "Mr. So and so is an honest politician: he will only accept the bribe if we get the contract."

My neighbors and I all watch out for each other... I was gone for a while as I was recovering from an injury and, when I came back? The outside was well looked after... this past weekend, my neighbors were gone for the weekend... I heard a noise next door and went to investigate... somebody forgot to tell me their 20 year old daughter was coming home after being away for the summer... I kind of scared her as she was having her shower...

Now that is even scarier. Didn't the mayor of Cebu just recently grant a $50,000P ransom for every criminal that is shot and killed? With no questions asked? With all the ingrained corruption, this is just another incentive to murder for money...

Anyone with windows 7 should stay with it. Turn off automatic updates. Windows 7, Windows XP, NT4 and WfWG3.11 are the highlights in the life of the Windows series. Windows 10 is not, will never be.

The big Robinson's. (they call it Robinson's Super because the big vegetable market behind Robinson's is called the Super.) Upstairs by the food court. It is just a kiosk beside the elevators. Forget the exact name...

You got out of it with a scare and some bruising, well done. Wish you a full recovery and remember to get back on the horse right away or it will be afraid of traffic later on 8 years without an incident. Well done I tell you. I had an accident, me T-boning another bike in Sri Lanka back in 1994. I was in luck, the kid driving just suddenly made a U-turn from outside his home, and his mom got furious when I smashed right into him. Furious on him, that is. Shows that it was not the first time he turned right into traffic without looking. All went well, it was no high speeds and it ended with well deserved milk tea and fried cookies.

Well I weighed myself when I started at the gym a few weeks ago and again today and it seems like have gained 2 kilos. I think this is because now I am working out again my appetite has returned which went way down after my foot was injured 3-4 months ago.I just hope my weight keeps going up until I reach my normal weight.

We have had rain for the last 3 days. I think it was Monday where it was quite heavy so heavy it flooded our yard with 75mm of water. After the downpour stopped I could see that it was not running away very quickly so I pushed a smell bamboo into the drainage hole in the wall and there she blows it poured out very fast. Now although I was a little concerned about the rising water level when it was raining when I managed to get rid of the blockage I saw the bonus it had created for us.The bonus was that it had flooded out 2 ants nests which had started since we moved in and now we only have to contend with ants coming from outside the yard. The downside was it drowned some of the Cacti I was growing.cant have it all can we.

It's great to say to kill criminals. The only problem with that, is when innocent people are targeted, or police start targeting people for other reasons because "they saw them committing a crime" Which could include foreigners. That's the fear. I haven't heard much of this in Davao City. But that's my fear.

Three comments: First, not everyone is corrupt or open to corruption. It is quite possible to run a successful business in the Philippines and never to pay a bribe or a "facilitation payment" to anyone. I have two English friends each of whom has done so for more than twenty years now. It just takes longer and requires a certain level of pig headed determination to comply with every regulation precisely. Once the word spreads that you never pay bribes, you gain considerable respect. Second, public sector salaries are absurdly low - a PO1 (Police Officer Level One) gets a little over 14000 pesos a month. Teachers are similarly under paid. This assumes a level of "tea money" payments to supplement their income. Third, yes almost all Asian countries and territories are similar - the notable exceptions are Hong Kong and Singapore, where a culture of resistance to corruption has taken hold in the population. The only unusual feauture of the Philippines is that the corruption is often taking place in English, not in Thai, Khmer, Bahasa, or any Chinese dialect...

There was much more to the story including the husband trying to kill the foreigner. Corrupt cop who offered to kill the husband. The woman and foreigner were in love and she was pregnant, when the ex found out she was seeing someone all hell broke loose from memory.

Thanks everyone for your very kind words. Went to the Hospital this morning as i wanted to be sure that my shoulder and thigh were only bruised which proved to be the case. So no breaks apparently. New dressings and a Tetanus shot just in case. Had not had one for a long time On the mend I am sure.

Your wife should be able to claim that as a "Balikbayan" irregardless of your status. I am glad to hear that the 13A is so cheap. I am alson contemplating the SRRV Courtesy Visa. This requires a time deposit of only $1500 http://www.pra.gov.ph/main/retiree/active and has been offered to US Military retirees for a couple of years now.

Boy am I p*ssed at Microsoft. What a joke! I can't believe that this is not making the news if there are as many issues as people her are reporting. 1. Some programs won't work. Most notable is Windows Live Movie Maker that I used a lot. 2. My USB wireless adapter has become flaky and that makes my internet go on and off. 3. The worst now is that my task bar freezes. I can't access the start menu when it does, so I have to reboot. I would avoid upgrading if I were you.

Mogo, you are partially correct. Money does have great influence in US elections. But celebrity status will often trump money (pun intended). If Trump was simply a businessman, he probably wouldn't get anywhere in politics. Having had great success in reality TV, Trump now has a cult following who have loyally appeared at the voting booths. Other Republicans have thrown huge sums of money at Trump's Republican rivals in an effort to overwhelm Trump's campaign, but to no avail. A very entertaining election year here in the States. Hillary and Donald have already started the smear commercials against each other and neither is yet confirmed as their party's candidate.

Well, good for you that nothing was serious. I had almost the same thing happen to me but I was driving our car! I've only been driving a few weeks here in PI and can see how easily these things can happen. I'm too scared to try two wheels here. I hope you have a full and speedy recovery!

As I have terrible smart service here, it sucks... no matter what phone I use... and, of course, everybody is on Smart... I just recently dropped a globe sim in and finally I know what 4 bars look like... my home internet is globe lte broadband and is pretty good... I haven't done a speed test for a long time though... no matter where you are? Check for signal strength! If it bounces up and down as you walk through the house? Check the other company !

I have a couple friends here who are gay... one is always immaculately dressed and keeps himself in shape ... and the girls literally swoon over him... it's such a shame he has to break the bad news to them... hehe ! Another works behind the scenes in both the fashion and entertainment worlds... he let slip once that, if I ever want to have a model stay the night or longer? Tell her I'm a lesbian in a man's body... Dam it but he was right!

You have a good point Bob. There have often been times when the press' version of things has severely questioned. That they are assumed credible now, without publishing the evidence may be giving them too much credence.

My grand father used to say way back in the 60's 'Corruption and the Corrupt' are like "Communism and the Communist" With Communism you are all equal but some are more equal than others. With Corruption, Most Politicians and those in High places + many, may others, are Corrupt but some are more Corrupt than Others. Just saying

I admit to being rather homophobic. But where I live is a 'ladyboy ' haven. Many of these have talked themselves into their lifestyle as jack alluded to. They are easily detected by exaggerated behavior. Many are indeed women trapped in male bodies. Others are in A state of confusion. Sorry can't say anymore this dress is killing me.

I agree. My solution is only to go to girly bars with my wife... ... consequently I have observed her behaviour in a girly bar - she yells "Take it OFF!", tucks fifty peso notes into garters, and "tables" pretty girls who look like they will be good company or who have done a particularly sexy dance, and proceeds to tell them outrageous lies - it's much more fun than I would have with male friends... ... and I get to go home with the prettiest girl in the bar - at no extra charge!
