  3. Was explaining to my wife, I thought it would be selfish of me, knowing I had a terminal illness and kept trying to get treated. I also do not want to extend the misery and drain resources for my wife. One of my wife's cousin died of cancer 20 years ago here in the PI, still paying. One fact for sure, we will all die.

  4. I live Moalboal about two to three hours from the closest "real" hospital. If I have a heart attack my plan is to die. I do have a credit card with a very large credit limit in case of accidents/illness where I have good chance of coming home healthy. If it is cancer or something similar that appears to be terminal I don't think I would choose to be treated. Doing so would only extend the misery and drain resources that my wife would need for her future.

  7. I don't know if I can call it a plan but since I don't have medical insurance my plan is to use my credit card for any emergency. I added my gf as an authorized user on my cc so In case I am incapacitated she can handle things. Also, if I ever settled down in the Philippines it is going to be near good hospital and an international airport.... not many choices available...

  8. Yesterday my friend went to LTO in Dumaguete to change his Thai driving license to a Philippine`s one. So he took the medical went in and they made him sit a test. Well they now have facial recognition on the computer. BUT the computer will not recognize people with glasses and keeps shutting down. If like me you need glasses to read how the hell are you supposed to take the test. I feel this is another example of using something before it is fully tested. OH well another day in paradise.

  9. I am not in the market for anything, but am curious about what is see when I pull up my local city's buy and sell postings for real estate and rentals. The monthly rental asking prices are sometimes clearly stated in terms of amount and sometimes minimum duration. But when it comes to lots or houses for sale, there are pictures with often meaningless numbers ( e.g. " P123456789", "Free", "P5" , etc. ). I assume that, if interested, you are to contact them for some real numbers and details. This seems to apply to both very nice houses as well as truly shabby properties. I sometimes w

  10. What you say is so true Philippines has it's own rules. We have a doctor but don't have not detailed what hospital we should use in an emergency or how best to get there. We do have a car and clown van in Cebu for transport.

  11. Reminds me of when i went register at immigration in Manila. I was told i needed an xray before leaving the UK which had to be put onto a disk. The Doctor apologised to me as they were still running wndows xp and their software couldnt read the disk !

  12. In theory, that sounds okay, under the original (pre-covid) regs. As for how these rules and regs may be changed due to the covid situation... your guess is as good as mine. Considering the fairly small difference in price between a return and a single air ticket, I would prefer to play safe, and buy a return. Nothing worse than the nice lady in the departure lounge refusing to board you. :(

  13. Ditto for me. I would also go so far as to say that the efforts of certain government officials and media would be better spent trying to fix the problem, rather than trying to fix blame.

  14. They want to make sure their listings aren't excluded from searches with maximum prices set, so it wouldn't be 123456789 unless they aren't good at math. Same reason a zero is often "accidentally" added to lot sqm sizes...

  15. Sometimes I think being poor (as I am...and the rellies know it) is so much less stressful here. Our shack and land are paid for too. How much they are worth now...don't know, don't care.

  17. Good subject to which I gave some thought a couple years back. 1. Have all the relevant emergency numbers on my phone.. which wouldnt be any use if I was in a coma I know but at least its a start. 2. Have an envelope in plain sight in my apartment with a copy of my medical insurance card, some cash, and a list of my medical history. I have shared this with my live in so she knows what to do ) hopefully) 3. With the envelope is a list of phone numbers of friends etc to call who I know would be smart enough to deal with stuff. 4. I have shown my live in the symptoms of

  18. Good idea. I transferred a suitable sum of money to a bank account for my wife to use in such an emergency. Knowing things here, I prefer to keep it as simple as possible.

  21. I'm not sure how detailed such a plan can be as we don't know what kind of emergency we might face. Basically, get to a hospital ASAP by whatever means seems the quickest at the time. I don't have any idea beyond that as I'm a great believer that the old adage "The best laid plans..." is especially true here.

  23. In this case it means that 'the placebo group' of people (who didn't get the vaccine but were given a 'fake injection' so they wouldn't know) 19 times as many people caught Covid as the number of people in the group of people who were given the vaccine candidate. However there are preliminary results which give hope that even where a person who has had the vaccine shots gets infected that they will experience a less severe form of Covid (possibly even asymptomatic). We'll know more about this later (a month maybe?) as the data is analyzed further and more results come in (the trial will

  25. I eat when I'm hungry, drink when I'm dry both in UK and PI. However I find to much rice gives me indigestion or bungs me up!....so I eat more fruit when in Philippines. My weight has only change since lockdown in February I have gained 7 lbs ( 63.5kg now ) and can't shed it!

  26. I am considered weird in a few ways... I'll admit that right away. I also have rarely eaten on a schedule that most people advocate. I rarely eat before noon. When I wake up, I simply want coffee - black. Unlike L and most people, I just do not wake up hungry. Sometimes I will cook and eat a lunch, but I really am not hungry then. I prefer to eat one large meal in the late afternoon - say 3 pm or so? I know it is healthier to eat more, small meals in a day, especially early...but... What I sometimes do, but try to avoid, is eating a big meal after 6 pm... I know that is unhealthy and

  29. China started giving a Covid-19 vaccine to their military 3 or 4 months ago. At the time I thought they might be using a dangerous not sufficiently tested vaccine. But maybe they had been developing a vaccine for much longer than what they admitted.
