  1. One morning after my wife and I first started living together I kissed her at the door and said "see you later alligator" as I set off for work. When I came home she was upstairs in the bedroom and the door was locked, I had no clue what I had done. Finally she let me in around bedtime but I couldn't get anything out of her so I tried to get some sleep for work the next day, of course just as I'm about to drift off she starts crying, I plead with her to tell me what I did, finally she looks at me and says "you call me alligator" needless to say I didn't get any sleep because she couldn't be convinced it was actually a saying because it makes no sense, too bad there wasn't any google back then.

  2. Interesting commentaries. I have been happily married for 49 years to the same person. She is my first love and that love has blossomed over the years. We celebrate our 50th anniversary this coming September. On the subject of marriage and relationships, let me plead the 5th (US Constitution right against self-incrimination).

  4. When i met my future wife and had the holiday romance , a few pictures taken of us both plus lots taken of her by myself , I had one picture on my mobile phone as a screen saver which I thought was a very nice one , anyway Emma saw it and straight away went quite on me and I had no idea why as I said the picture is lovely . A few hours later I found out the reason why she was a little upset , while the photo was fine on my mobile phone my service provider was written right across her forehead VIRGIN, that’s what she did not like , it took me awhile showing her virgin trains , virgin planes and yes virgin Mobil network .

  5. I'd personally rather have AM and her anger than any sort of cold shoulder behaviour, at least it's out there in the open and being discussed, well eventually None of us is perfect, what do we all do when we're in the wrong? I just admit my error, apologise, and move on after she's calmed down.

  6. PLDT has an upgrade plan that might benefit some of you. Only good til the end of the month. Link down below. I have been paying p3730 for 50 mbps + Cignal digital HD TV for 5 years, and that started out with SubicTel, a PLDT subsidiary. I usually get 50-75 mbps. After my 2 year term was up, I asked at the Subictel office about getting a lower rate, more than once. They acted like they had never heard of that concept, and said no, not possible. Since then, Subictel was merged back into PLDT, so I have to deal with PLDT directly. So a while back I got an e-mail from PLDT about this upgrade promo. I called the number today and it is all automated. I was only offered the p3799 plan as a choice, which is 200 mbps. So I did not go for it. I called the 171 service number, and asked to drop Cignal and lower my cost. At first he said if I dropped Cignal, it would only drop to p3500. The p230 is the Cignal box rental. I said that is ridiculous, I am a 5 year customer and you want to charge me more than new customers. So he did some checking. He said if I would accept a onetime p500 "downgrade" fee, he could offer me p2099 for 100 mbps. I said sign me up. I double and tripled checked with him, p2099 for 100 mbps. That seems odd because on the web, it says 2099 is 50 mbps. He said it would take 24-48 hours, but about an hour after we talked, I did a speedcheck and it measures over 150 mbps. I kept the Cignal for now, so in theory, my bill should now be 2099 + 230 = 2329. Time will tell. https://pldthome.com/supersaverbooster?utm_source=AIA&utm_medium=EDM&utm_campaign=supersaverbooster

  8. I thought about that too but from what I'm reading the Philippines treats the a positive antibody test as a covid case, you would have to then have the RT-PCR test to prove you don't have the virus currently, which brings me to the subject of travel to the U.S. Passengers are required to get a negative covid test within three days of departure "The negative pre-departure test must be a viral test (RT-PCR or Antigen) that was conducted on a specimen collected within 3 days prior to flight departure from a foreign country" The problem I see here is that if you opt for the antigen test you might pop positive for a case of covid that you already recovered from in which case you then have to prove you no longer have the virus, this is from PAL's website, I don't know if they reworded it or it came from the state department this way. The test result states “NEGATIVE”, “SARS-CoV-2 RNA NOT DETECTED,” “SARS-CoV-2 ANTIGEN NOT DETECTED” or “COVID-19 NOT DETECTED.” A test marked “invalid” is not acceptable. If passenger has recovered from COVID-19, passenger must provide a written documentation of recovery from COVID-19 after previous SARS-CoV-2 infection in the form of a positive viral test result and a letter from a licensed health care provider or public health official stating that the passenger has been cleared. The document of recovery from COVID-19 means that the passenger has presented documentation of a positive test result and a signed letter on official letterhead that contains the name, address, and phone number of a licensed healthcare provider or public health official stating that the passenger has been cleared for travel; The positive test occurred within the last three months (90 days) prior to flight departure to the US Personal identifiers (e.g. name and date of birth) on the positive test result and signed letter match the personal identifiers on the passenger’s passport or other travel documents; The test performed was a viral test; and The test result states “POSITIVE”, “SARS-CoV-2 RNA DETECTED”, “SARS-CoV-2 ANTIGEN DETECTED,” “COVID-19 DETECTED.” A test marked “invalid is not acceptable. This Order applies to all air passengers, 2 years of age or older, traveling into the US, including US citizens and legal permanent residents. Any flight entering the US, even for a connection, will require testing before departure. All air passengers traveling to the US, regardless of vaccination status, are required to provide a negative COVID-19 test result or documentation of recovery. My wife and I have tickets for mid April and it feels like back to the future right now trying to get ready to get out of here, Manila is locked down again, inbound flights are restricted, covid test needed, travel pass from BI needed, getting out of here is a dicey affair, I will definitely get the RT-PCR rather than the antigen test but it could take a day or so to get the result and what if a false positive happens.

  9. And that would assume your pockets are deep enough to buy a jab(s) for the cost of a round trip airfare plus the other food, lodging, travel, etc. expenses because the jabs are three to twelve weeks apart depending on vaccine. And hope the Philippines does not change the rules on who can come back while you are away. And if all that is not worry enough, it appears certain people in the USA are beginning to think it okay to harass and/or assault anyone with Asian features so keep a close watch over your wife. I will probably calm down after I have a cup of coffee.

  10. Problem is: our (= Western expats) definition of normality isn't exactly a Filipino's definition of normality. The amount of struggle, pain and hardship a "normal" (typical) Filipino family goes through their life doesn't even begin to compare to our life back home, or even down here. Do they accept most of these struggles and pain passively, with a smile and an almost religious form or resignation? The fact that they seem to bounce back after every family tragedy, after losing everything and starting over, after episodes of humiliation and de-humanization that we Westerners would find unbearable, is a testament to their resilience, their resourcefulness. It's something I respect and can only look at in total awe. This, at least for me, though does not mean that they are not finding it hard to live.

  12. My partner does it and despite many conversations/warnings etc regarding my total contempt of such a childish action she still continues to do it. A year or two back a good friend here just advised me to give her an hour or two and if she is still acting like a spoiled brat then just go out and leave her to it. That is generally what I do now, I leave her to sulk on her own until the cows come home. Me? I go off to town, have a coffee, meet friends, maybe go for a dinner and then have a few beers and watch some live music. Maybe go into 'Why Not' which is a late night bar/nightclub and just have fun into the early hours. By the time I roll back in past midnight she will be in bed asleep and I have had a nice peaceful and usually fun evening. Each time this has happened, in the morning she is keen to make up and try to find out where i have been and more importantly for her, who I was with. It might not work for everybody but it bloody well works for me. Apart from Tampo being very childish behaviour I also find it to be very damaging to a relationship.

  14. I've had two internal gas tanks empty over night due to leaking hoses. One hose was only installed three months previously. It was a rented property and the gas bottle stuck under the sink. I made a habit of switching the gas on and off after every use as the quality of the rubber hose was suspect even from new.

  15. Kinda hard Jake if they refuse to talk, discuss or otherwise say what the issue is. Plus why patronize or reward bad behavior? For me being in the oldie category I deal with it by being the same, just keep mouth shut and do my own thing, Eventually it goes away, fortunately rarely happens these days.

  16. This is what am still confused about. A gray area for now. I was paying for a Fibr/Cignal package obtained through Subictel. I just looked at the old paperwork and the Fibr monthly was 3500. The Cignal was free Cignal Triple Play package + 230 for Cignal box rental per month. So I have no idea what is going to happen with my Cignal. Actually we wanted to drop it anyway because we no longer use it. Now I have to wait for the April 1 billing to see what happens.

  19. More than 90 million people have received at least one dose in the US, so some immunity there. Add to that the 31 million cases to date, and the likelihood that for each officially counted case there are two others that never were detected, and we are talking over 180 million people with at least some immunity right now. That's over half the US population. Herd immunity is expected to hit at somewhere between 60 and 80 percent of the population, so we should be getting there very soon at the current rate of over 2 million shots per day and roughly 60,000 official cases per day. Once that occurs maybe the US will start sending more doses overseas, including the RoP. The UK has also done very well with its vaccination program.

  20. Regardless, you're saving around 1400php a month for, at worst, the same as you had before - not the worst deal you'll get. I just upgraded my Globe plan - same price and increase from 30mbps to 35mbps. No big jump but will allow me to get Netflix in 4k more often than I currently do. Taking Globe (1899php) and Cignal (1880php with 2 boxes) together we are paying about what you were before. That said, we have more channels on Cignal than with the PLDT plan but a lower speed.

  24. They certainly get tampo over the strangest things. My latest one came right out of the blue ( her 2nd of three then the door hits her on the way out). I was asking what she fancied doing later and she just blurted out " the ice crusher is broken." Not having an ice crusher in the house I asked her for the start of this particular conversation as I've not got a clue what she is on about. She just went silent and her lip dropped. I asked her again what the full story was and she just blanked me. I reminded her that if she is discussing something I like a start then a middle and an end to a conversation so I can follow the story. If looks could have killed I'd be dead. I told her not to start this [email protected] and just tell me what she is on about but all I got was silence. After telling her she had better think what she is doing as she knows my opinion of tampo she just said " later" and walked away. I went for a jog and asked her what her problem was when I returned and eventually she told me she had bought an ice crusher for her family two years ago and her sister pulled it out of their cupboard and it wasn't working so had blamed my partner. They've used it maybe 3 times in two years. That was enough for her to give me tampo.

  26. Well to be honest, we had saved up for a visit last June (we know how that went ). Have a 3 week credit at a hotel in San Diego (took me 3 months going through the booking agent, hotel and credit card folks to get that taken care of ) We have a niece there now (nurse naturally ) who is keeping her ear to the ground. My (hopeful) plan is to wait until the J#J one jab shot is ready and widely available. My fall back is, it being San Diego with lots of military bases and if we have to extend our stay, to stay on one of the base transient quarters. 3rd option is to bunk in with either my sister, wifes brother and niece, or her other niece. 4th option is to drive 40 miles north to Temecula and crash at Jake's place.......(I like to have breakfast at 0530 Jake,,,get ready )

  27. GeoffH provides us with a very good explanation. The following is supplemental information. You can still catch Covid 19 after vaccination, but here is the latest: "In total, four out of 8,121 workers at the University of Texas and seven out of 14,990 in UC San Diego tested positive after receiving two doses, according to The New York Times." Can someone vaccinated transmit the virus to others? The answer is, "Maybe yes. Maybe no." The experts don't know and they are waiting for the data from studies. So the experts want everyone to wear masks in the meantime. Specific to the Philippines, will the government accept the V passport? I don't know. Look at the composition of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF). This is a war against a pandemic, so military generals are in-charge. Their solution is lockdowns and police checkpoints to prevent spread. Has it work? Both logic and science are absent. Unfortunately, the pandemic hit the world during a US presidential election year. Somewhat similar to the Philippine military, rather than health experts, the politicians took over. A majority of the deaths could have been prevented. And preventable deaths still continues. The statistics are in a decline are more are vaccinated. Among those who are 70 years and older, 72% have received at least one jab. It's time to re-open the economy and celebrate, according to some state governors. So who are out on the street celebrating? The 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's age group. Their vaccination won't begin until April 15th at the earliest.

  29. If you are vaccinated then you can still catch Covid but the chances of you doing so are lower (somewhat lower to much lower depending upon the vaccine). There is also the factor that if a vaccinated person does catch Covid then they will (on average) be carrying a lower viral load and be less infectious (so likely NOT a 'super spreader'). Lastly the various Covid vaccines (so far as the evidence can tell so far) effectively protect 100% against disease serious enough to require hospitilization and hence a vaccinated person entering the Philippines would not be taking away a Covid hospital place from a local. Now whether that's enough for the government to decide to relax borders or not I have no idea (and it's up to them to decide of course) but this isn't a yes/no situation, there are shades of grey in play.

  31. Maybe. 10 days ago I started coughing and could barely catch my breath. Symptoms got worse and included cough, fever, shortness of breath, pain in upper lungs, headache, fatigue, muscle ache. Sounds familiar yes? The problem is there are no test sites here in the province. I felt like crap, but I also do not feel it is life threating (at that point) and know that the majority of corona cases, if that is what is, do not require hospitalization. About day 7 I began to cough up "yellow crap" and my lungs were making strange noises. At that point my wife drove me to the doctor. The doctor listened to my lungs and put me on strong antibiotics and cough suppressant. I did not have fever at that time. There was no discussion of corona. Three days now on the antibiotics and I feel much better, no fever, very little cough, lungs feeling much better, but still a bit weak and short of breath. My thoughts then and now were: You either have it or you don't. No test readily available. In any case 95 percent of corona does not require hepatization. But if it is corona and I go out to seek a test, see a doctor, I risk exposing other people and end up being told to go home. Hell I am home now, why complicate the issue. So we treated it AS IF it were corona and took as much precaution as possible. No visitors, wear masks even in the house, separate bedrooms, eat alone, etc, etc. The next time I go to the city I will probably get an antibody test to see if I did/do have corona. At this point I actually hope it will be positive as I will have built up some immunity and enjoy life just a bit more.

  32. The Angry Midget (wife) and I have a rule: Don't go to sleep angry with each other. This is normally rather easily achieved given that I'm never in any doubt as to where she stands on any contentious issue, and these opinions are often delivered with umm fervour. There's been times I wish I was on the wrong end of "tampo".... 4'10 and 45kgs (100lbs) and the only thing in the planet I'm scared of....

  34. “One of the worst feelings in an intimate relationship is to feel ignored” The subject of TAMPO, although it was discussed many times before....thank you Guy for sharing. It's still quite relevant, especially for the new members here. Over the 35 years I've been married to Judy, I am guilty also of giving my wife, the silent treatment. But when I started my retirement years, I had to force myself -- don't sweat the small shit. And indeed, most of our issues were BS. I do get angry but after an overnight of unnecessary stress, I try to kiss and make up. JJ made an excellent point about exposing family issues outside your front door. It's called Tsismis (gossiping). Most of time, it starts with your maids and it spreads like wildfire. All of the sudden, the locals are giving you the snake eyes.

  35. Mostly agree. What I don't understand is this. Why would our local leader be encouraging people to get tested at p3800 a pop? This is from her FB. Why would someone who is feeling fine want to be tested? Especially with the tests not being 100% accurate? And if you are negative, and no vaccine is available to you, a week later you could be positive. Cases are rising. Get tested. Titiisin ko po lahat ng pagmumura ninyo sa akin Basta sumunod po tayo sa protocols upang wag dumami pa ang COVID dito sa atin #HindiKailanganMagMura #LoveNotHate I love you Jerk Salvador

  36. Whilst people doing their job is to he applauded, there is such a thing as being over zealous. It seems crazy to me that we'd be expected to wear a mask in a bar/restaurant and only lower it to take a sip or mouthfull of our refreshments. I can see how we should put on the mask when moving around within the establishment but whilst consuming? Nah, they've got that wrong if it's really what's required. As always, just IMHO.

  37. Remedy the situation right away, not by correcting the infraction because the reason is unknown, but by being extra nice in other ways. Dinner out or an increase of money for the household expenditure. You are in really deep trouble if she starts telling friends and family members what's wrong with you.
