  1. Dave the seniors that drive big SUV's and came form the US as OFW's are vastly smaller than the majority of the rest of the Filipino senior citizens .... probably less than 10% .... but whatever .... I really don't care as I don't hang out at McDo's counting the number of seniors that drive big SUV's .... I just see the ones in the mall eating there and so I can't tell what they drive .... but if it will make you happy ..... you're right .....
  2. Just a few further thoughts and then I'll crawl back in my hole ..... the whole reason for senior discounts is because senior citizens live on a fixed income and can't earn extra money especially if on SS in the US (well until you reach a certain age) without SS penalizing you for it (US only) it is not because you are being honored for being old .... in the PI these seniors get a such a crappy small amount and some nothing at all .... if they didn't work .... that these people need all the help they can get (but then most can't afford to eat at McDo's as the nut case in the video can) But hey help could be on the way .... when I buy my McDo franchise I will give you foreigners a p20 discount and just add that much back into the cost of all my hamburgers .... actually I think I can come out ahead of the game ..... in fact I will give you a great big smile when you ask for your discount ..... and then smile all the way to the bank .... as the saying goes "ain't no such thing as a free McDo's" ... oooops or is that lunch ..... oh well same never mind .....
  3. At Casa Verde in Cebu we saw and heard management tell a group of people that bring their own food was not allowed .... the big chubby mamasan got a bit bent out of shape but covered up her huge Tupperware of rice and put it back into her shopping bag style purse and ate their CV lunch ... kudo's to management for sticking to their guns ..... some places actual do have signs telling you that bringing your own food is not allowed .... I'll take a picture next time I see one as they are few and far between ....
  4. Sometimes they always look on the positive side of things .....
  5. The only sugar we have in the house is brown sugar .... we do however use Splenda which we buy in huge bags from a store in Cebu and have them shipped here ... in fact we just ordered 3 of these bags last week and they will last us almost 2 years .... I'm a diabetic .....
  6. I agree that's why we only eat out once a week and at that I'm getting tired of the lack of choices .... at home I know how the food is prepared and cooked with the seasonings I like and no way I can eat rice at every meal .... even once a week is to much for me .... but plenty of fresh veggies and a meat or fish or chicken is great .... most cheap foods I have found here are full of salt or sugar .... two of the Filipinos staples in diet ....
  7. Thank you sir for your reply ..... yes I read that also about google claiming it was never supposed to be released but I think that came after tons of complaints from 3rd party programmers that complained about not getting to mine your information and sell it to other companies .... I suppose they feel the need to get paid somehow for their work even if a lot of their apps didn't work .... I don't see how google developers would use that sort of program unless they didn't want to be bothered with all the BS while checking out app compatibility which is the exact same thing we detest .... plus invading our privacy and allowing hackers to get access to your cell phone .... By the way I heard that google in their newest version version 6 will be bring it back after more people bitched about it than did the 3rd party programmers .... but after reading the reviews of version 6 you only have to worry about google invading more into your privacy and this is all done in the name of progress and convenance .... I call it laziness on the part of the masses and are willing to give up their privacy for convenances ..... really sad when companies take advantage of this weakness .... One example I read concerning version 6 is that if you are driving down the street and talking about eating at Mcdo's a message on your phone will pop up showing you the nearest McDo's restaurant .... so it not only tracts your location it knows where you want to eat by voice recognition .... now that is scary ..... very very scary .... Again thanks for the info .... I'll check out greenify .... I take it it is in the play store ....
  8. We just bought 2 new cell phones the Huawei Honor 4X ..... I was impressed with my last Huawei so we upgraded to the Honor 4X .... here's the question .... is Lollipop 5.1 better than Kit Kat 4.4.2 .... ex. my other Huawei had Kit Kat 4.4.2 installed also BUT it had the app permission feature (allows you to manually set apps permission as to what they can or can't do on your phone) ...... it also allowed 3rd party apps to have access to your SD card to store files on ..... now my new phone has these 2 items deleted but still runs the same version of Kit Kat 4.4.2 .... I know I could root my phone but it would void the warranty and I have a 2 year warranty on both phones .... Does anyone running Lollipop know if these 2 features are enabled once again .... I have an upgrade to Lollipop for the Honor 4X (Huawei has several models of phones eligible for this upgrade) but I don't want to keep digging myself into a hole by going to a lesser OS with more problems .... Thanks for any input you can give me ..
  9. Wow ..... every time this topic pops up I am utterly amazed at some of the responses people come up with .... to me the guy in the video is a complete and utter arse-hole .... if he is so dependent on getting a so much needed p20 every time he eats there .... say what ..... once or twice a month because if he eats there every day he can well afford to bypass the discount and has more money than I do and I don't need a McDo discount ..... I totally agree with the poster above that said some people shouldn't be here .... some say it is the principal of the thing .... what thing .... the fact the Phil government says it's senior citizens can get a senior discount and foreigners can't .... it also says we can't vote ... own weapons ... buy property and a host of other things .... does these same people head down to the Malacanyang demanding from them that they receive these benefits if only for the principal of the thing .... hell no they don't .... they would rather try and bully so poor manager of a eatery who can make no more decisions than they can .... As far as only major companies being the ones to be required to give out discounts that to me has a hint of being discriminatory in itself .... as big burger may sell 1,000 burgers a day and a mom and pop sell 10 burgers a day it is all relevant .... mom and pop pay out p200 and big burger pays out p20,000 in discounts .... you sell more burgers and make more money but you also have more overhead ..... finance 101 JMHO
  10. Been using it for years and one of the few programs I found worth paying for .... JMHO
  11. According to the info in the post I posted above he never actually completed the journey however his one remaining boat and a handful of men did .... including Antonio Pigafetta the guy who wrote a book on their travels ....
  12. This came from the link that Dave so graciously provided .... Low tide in Mactan” Poro abundance of soil, water, the sand much wider to walk, the beaches are awesome. Ronald Carcellar concluded; “when the 1,500 male soldiers arrived from the ship called “Victoria Galleon”, walking the sand before reaching the soil, to visualize also that, they have wives and children, how can they survive in Mactan Island or Opon Island?” But the author has it backwards .... the Filipinos supposedly number 1500 ... (please note I said supposedly) .... there is only 1 written account of his trip around the world and that was by Antonio Pigafetta and tells an entirely different story .... I have included a link to various sites and finally the entire account by him .... interesting read .... I gave you a choice of formats ....... enjoy Magellan's Trip Around the World.odt Magellan's Trip Around the World 2.pdf
  13. I think the most beautiful girls are in Negros .... see just depends on where you are as to where the beautiful girls are .... no offense but this topic has been rearing it's head since I've been reading these boards more than 18 years ago ..... I would say the pretty girls are in the eyes of the beholder .....
  14. Dave they outlawed the test here in Negros Occidental 2 years ago .... I'm not sure just when they are supposed to join both Negroes for official status as they are still squabbling about where to put the island government ..... if it were me I would just make a satellite office say where you live .... but I heard it will be on the west coast in a town with hardly any facilities .... (I wonder which politician owns the most land there) or infrastructure .... so they are planning to build the city from scratch .... a few miles up the road is a pretty good sized town but they elected not to go there .... why?????? .... who knows ....
  15. I quite downloading any updates from Windows security or not .... I use ALL 3rd part software and hide behind a hardware firewall also run 1 antivirus and 1 malware program .... I suppose once M$ finds out about it they will send me some nasties but as I don't download their crap it shouldn't matter ..... but I don't recommend what I do for everyone ....
  16. Bob ... Bob ... Bob ..... you have certainty learned to use the word bola bola .... really well ....
  17. I'm sure you aren't aware of this but region 7 is the only region in all the Philippines that still requires one to take a pee test .... the government did away with that requirement several years ago but some judge down around Talisay threw up a TRO after 1 man complained to him about the new requirement .... all I can say is that that guy must have had some hellacious pull somewhere cause the TRO is still in effect ....
  18. Yes you are correct .... most of the people in that area are not for the Liberal party and didn't support Aquino for president so how better to express you displeasure than not supporting them in their time of need ... isn't this the powerful Filipinos way of doing business .... there are still (or were) millions of dollars still sitting in bank accounts drawing interest (which by the way the interest could be siphoned off without touching the principle and not be considered stealing) .... am I hinting at anything .... good heavens no nothing like that could or would EVER happen .... Like I said Binay has not been found guilty yet and his accusers are the ex-vice mayor (who wanted to become mayor) who by the way has his own legal graft case pending and a senator who was jailed for trying to overthrow the government and later acquitted by the next president ... he had aspirations of becoming president or vice-president (can't remember which) but failed .... as trying to make a name for himself apparently didn't work .... Oooh well like I said none of my business ... I don't care it really won't effect me ....
  19. .... I caught it because of the nicks of posters who don't post anymore ..... at first it had me scratching my head .....
  20. For now .... but don't hold your breath ..... you'll turn blue .....
  21. Thanks for that in site Bob many people forget that you will never find the perfect politician (there ain't no such thing ) but if you look at all the candidates running here you will definitely be able to whittle down the choices or at least from the top 4 Poe .... absolutely no experience running anything .... but as one of her campaign posters says "she is a young, pretty, natural born Filipina" ..... Binay ..... has experience running one of the largest cities in the PI and current vice-president but charged with misappropriation of funds ... but so far not proven .... but look at his record of helping Makati grow and what he has done for the citizens there .... might shock you .... Duterte ..... also a mayor of the 3rd largest city in the PI but has been labeled an extremest and lots of higher-ups don't like his hard line direct approach .... Roxas ..... well not much can be said here .... just remember how he handled the Yolanda disaster ... really a disaster so what would he do with the country .... All of the above are JMHO .... but as was said we have no say-so in anything political ... oh and by the way I have NO PERSONAL choice for president .... because as they have told me .... I have no right to have an opinion here .....
  22. And I personally see nothing wrong with that as the restaurant will not turn in your discount to be reimbursed by the Phil government .... it just comes out of their profit .... while I personally have never done it ..... just like using the senior line in any establishment as long as it doesn't require a SC card .... just an ID .... no harm no foul ....
  23. I stay out of all politics both here and back in the US .... everyone has their own favorite and it has been my experience that no matter how hard you try you aren't going to change anyone's mind nor persuade them to change sides .... hence I keep my own political and religious believes to myself .... I think we should show support for Goofy in the US and Mickey Mouse here in the Phils ..... ..... by the way JMHO ....
  24. I personally feel we will never be entitled to a SC card because seniors here can get a small cash payment from the Brgy's that they live in .... I have heard anywhere from 500 to 1000 pesos per month so it seems unlikely we qualify for this plus I believe that like when you buy medicines the place like Mercury drugs sends in the card ID and the amount of the discount and is then reimbursed by the government and as we don't pay taxes other than VAT it will never be approved and rightly so .... I mean most if not all of us make twice or three times as much as the average local and really don't need these little hand outs .... if a person really depends on this trivial amount of money to be able to keep living here in the Phils than you should sit down and reevaluate why you are here ..... there are a lot more bigger issues of things that I can't have or do than for me to worry about a SC card .... JMHO As to groceries there are different booklet amounts issued depending on the size of your family (I think from 600-1000p per week) kinda like food stamps in the US .... every week I see this American dragging this poor ol' woman (and no it isn't his wife or girlfriend as she looks to be in her 70's) and 2-3 kids and a helper to the grocery store so she can use her SC card to help pay for the food and he appears as proud as a peacock standing in the seniors line .... kinda like the reverse of the norm here in the Phils .... .... anyway the healthcare benefit would be nice ..... but again it is not expected .... IMHO
