  1. Tom .... as far as I can tell or read that Windows anti-virus is close to the bottom of the list when it comes to protection .... I haven't seen a single review that had it anywhere close to the top 10 .... only in the free catigory does it appear in the top 10 and usually 9 or 10 .... Thanks for all your comments ... I decided to go with a program called BullGuard (hope it doesn't turn into BullCrap) anyway it isn't free but for the stripped down version (which is what I am looking for) it is $17 per year with a discount for one computer .... couple that with Malwarebytes Free and it should work pretty well .... but we shall see ....
  2. What a shame .... I have lots of pictures I downloaded from the net of the base in it's hay day .... never had the privilege of visiting or serving there .... thanks for the pictures and narration ....
  3. Queenie O ..... that is one of the best posts I have read in quite a while .... thank you for your contribution you are definitely a breath of fresh air in a room full of smelly cigar smokers .... I think this is the first time I have actually run into a foreign woman married to a Filipino and it is really great to get your perspective on living here and life with a Filipino .... keep up the good work I love reading your posts ....
  4. That's the one used to be right across from the Kultura Filipina native store .... HO sits on a corner .... you are right LOTS of great items in there .... that store I sure do miss ....
  5. It is all in the individual opinion and that is yours .... however I don't see any high horse looking down his nose in his post .... I guess the same could be said for you ..... but again that is just my opinion ....
  6. True Dave ..... you have to be in love with your head as well as your heart .... while the bank accounts are in her name should something happen to her I still maintain a reserve as the banks will freeze the bank accounts .... there are other means to store reserves for a rainy day and yes she is aware and has access to them also .... there is a big difference from being in love to being in heat to being just plain stupid .... ...... JMHO
  7. A lot you say above is true .... while we have no property ALL our bank accounts here are in J's name and I give no thought to her running off we our money .... after 8 years she hasn't done it yet and when I was hospitalized she had an excellent chance but instead stayed by my bedside both day and night .... yes I am very much in love with my wife and not afraid to admit it .... but that is just me .... I can't speak for anyone else .... JMHO
  8. Good god the selection out there is unbelievable kinda like 100 flavors of vanilla .... finally gave up on my ex-current one Malware-bytes .... used it for about 8 years but now they won't give you real time protection unless you want to use their pro version and yea you gotta pay for it .... so I started looking around for another free version of virus protection .... so far since the 80's I have used MacAfee ... Avast ... AVG ... Malware-bytes ... Bitdefender ... Windows Defender ... Adware Antivirus ... Zone Alarm Antivirus ... and possibly 2-3 more that I can't think of right now .... So what the hell you ask .... is there a problem? .... yup it seems all the current antivirus programs are going to cloud service and I ain't quite ready to trust my computer info to a cloud .... plus so many of these new program versions think we all are stupid and won't let you customize your settings .... so you can't save a false positive download as they deem it to be a virus and out it goes with the trash .... I have a free trial of Bitdefender pro 2016 right now for 30 days and it has a setting called auto-pilot and with it you can't make choices ... if you do you get the "your computer is not protected" message .... I uninstalled Windows Defender (or what ever it is called) as I no longer trust any updates from M$ .... and some of the others like Zone Alarm install their firewall with it and it blocks any P2P sites or SourceForge as it doesn't feel I need to be downloading anything from them .... more of Big Brothers BS I'm sure (funny how companies cow-down to BB's whims) .... So anyway if anyone knows of a free antivirus program that is not cloud driven .... user-friendly (and by that I mean can be tweaked or settings changed) ..... doesn't leave tons of unwanted crap on your computer if you decide to uninstall it .... not based in China (found 2 of those) .... please let me know cause I'm fast running out of options ....
  9. Matt Wilkie claims a lot of things .... nuff said

    Beet Root

Actually as a kid growing up I had them both ways but we called your beetroot pickled beets .... to be eaten as a condiment .... never tried them on a hamburger but I can see them taking the place of pickles on it .... by the way they sell beetroot (pickled beets) in a jar in SM Becolod under the Tesco brand ...
  11. J has no problem admitting when she is wrong or saying she is sorry for doing something she did .... but from what I understand that is not the norm here ... Filipino's don't ever like to admit that they were wrong about anything ..... so why should you say you are sorry when you are never wrong ....
  12. Tried to enter to quotes in one post and OMW's post and my reply got deleted and Dave's got added twice .... oh well try this again .... Dave we don't have an IHOP here in Bacolod but we do have a Pancake House with delicious blueberry pancakes .... but it is being moved to a different location right now .... Yup that is my favorite also .... only problem here in Bacolod is they can't keep it on the menu .... something about running out of Jalapenos .... but not a problem for me cause I just take a 4 cheese burger home and add my own Jalapenos .... wala ... Angry Burger ..... masarap ....
  13. We were married in Cebu City back in 2009 and I had to have a certified copy of my birth certificate .... as Jack says EVERY city is different and goes by it's own rules and regs .... no such thing as continuity .... JMHO ....
  14. While Dave's reply may sound funny when I was in the US riding my Harley I always kept a spark plug where I could reach it ..... all you do is throw it straight up in the air so the ass-hole behind you can't see it (some people thing it is funny to tailgate a bike) it will definitely get their attention ..... it works .... almost all the folks I rode with did that .... lot better than getting pushed off the road into a ditch .... ball bearings work well also ... To be honest I really have no problem driving here .... you just learn to drive defensively which is how I drove in the US which came from riding motorcycles for the past 40yrs .... you damn well better learn to ride them defensively or grow some real thick skin to protect from road-rash .... here most bikes ride fairly slow compared to running along at 60+ mph in the US.... drop one that that speed and it's gonna hurt ... By the way you couldn't pay me to ride a bike here .... to damn old and my bones are to brittle ....
  15. And why in the US most public cr's the paper is put into the type of container that only allows you to remove so much and not the whole roll or otherwise it would be just like here .... gone .... Theft deterrent .... bougainvillea planted under or around something you don't want stolen .... (outside of course not in the cr ..... ) .... I'm sure some welding shop can devise something that has a split cage so you can just open it with maybe screwdriver or locked .... tried doing a search on DDGo but no luck .... As to renters removing the bulbs when they leave .... well we do the same thing except we replace the owners bulbs with our own expensive ones and than but theirs back when we leave .... point in question we have an outside bulb that turns on and off by itself we sure the hell ain't gonna leave that here when we move ....
  16. I used to oil my fans but now I use a little white Lithium grease on them ..... also most of the fans I have had here come with sleeve bearings even in the more expensive ones have yet to find one with real ball bearings .... by cleaning them regular and lubricating them they will last quite a while .... we have 2 that have lasted 4-5 years and run from 8:00am till time for bed about 10:00pm .... since my pacemaker was installed we now do use aircon in the bedroom on low and number 4 setting with 10 being the highest ... just keeps the room cool with no need for even a sheet for covering .... also helps to take the humidity out of the air ....
  17. That's why I like the push buttons ..... takes the guess work out of it ....
  18. Trying this again .... 9:20am ... finished uploading at 10:26 so Just a little over an hour for a 6.44 min. movie .... I'm sorry if you guys have a slow upload connection .... but at least some of you can watch it .... Sorry about the no sound but there were a lot of naughty words uttered-by-you-know-who about the condition of the #^*+@!%$ road Toboso to San Carlos 2.mov
  19. I agree I'm not sure weather to comment on the age of my wife or the the asking of the relatives for a hand-out ..... so guess I'll just stay out of this one because neither topic applies to us .....
  20. Thought I would try a video here for kicks .... if it works out good I will try some more ..... We traveled this road going toward San Carlos sometime in Nov. 2012 .... started this upload at 7:00pm will see how long it takes .... upload failed after 10 mins. .... file is 193MB .... try to figure out why and retry
  21. Great timing and thanks we were considering leaving San Carlos and going south .... not now we will wait a few years till they get the road straightened out .....
  22. We get the same question even from both my doctors (both female) they were surprised to learn I really like Filipino food .... well most .... don't like bitter gourd in any fashion .... nor balut .... and some veggies only occasionally .... by the way as there is only the 2 of us J only cooks ulam once a day and we eat it lunch and supper 95% of the time .... breakfast is separate so I guess that means she really cooks twice a day .... but them we have always done it that way .... I eat rice but sparingly .... less than once a week .... I eat the beef here but J cooks it in the pressure cooker or has it mixed with pork and ground up for patties .... spaghetti .... goulash and other dishes .... mixing the pork with a little fat on the pork keeps the other wise dry tasting beef much more moist and flavorful .... try it ..... we use 1/4 pork to 3/4 beef .... we are looking for a hand operated grinder so we can do it at home as I'm not sure just how clean they keep them in the meat market .... and yes we go to the meat market ....
  23. Yes .... they also get your tag and vehicle in that photo so that you can't use someone else's emission report on your car .... and I do agree I have no idea how some of those smoke belching jeepneys make the test .... while I know that diesels do smoke and are required to have a different machine to test them with (ours did anyway) and there is also a different requirement for the age of the vehicle with diesels I believe it is 1, 2, 3, and 4 .... I read that once at one of the newer stations we went to last year ....
  24. ... Super we are going to do a road trip going that way soon and probably spend the nite in San Carlos ..... we found a nice little motel there not far from the port .... people are really nice they even went across the street and bought us some breakfast rolls when the cook didn't show up to cook breakfast ..... they have a small kitchen there that fixes eggs and stuff in the morning .... didn't eat there any other time so not sure about other meals but will let everyone know when we get back .... also did a webcam there .... will look for it and post if I can ....
  25. We took the road from Bacolod ..... Murcia ..... Don Salvador Benedicto to San Carlos about 4 times both ways coming and going from Bacolod to Cebu before and during our move here ...... first time it was a bit scary in a SUV because of the trucks and buses and the fact we didn't know what to expect on what was around the next bend (and there are a lot of bends on that road) Going back to Cebu the first time we took the road from Bacolod ..... Silay .... Cadis ... Escalante .... Toboso .... Calatrava to San Carlos to avoid the mountains and what a big mistake that road from Toboso to San Carlos was terrible .... mostly drove at 15-20km along most of that streach .... road was washboard gravel for the most part with stretches of perfect concrete just through some of the villages we saw only about 6 cars the whole way .... but there were no mountains to speak of .... I have lots of videos of all the places we go here in Negros including the entire trip to and from San Carlos to Bacolod (we use the car cam every time we leave the house) ..... but it takes so long for these videos to upload ... sometimes hours on a 2Mbps connection it isn't worth it .... used to upload some stuff to Youtube but that wasn't much better as either way it ties up my band width so that it lags terribly when I try to use it while uploading .... Thanks for your report RBM and hope to read more in the future ....
