  1. @KurtVD did you also checked cities outside of Metro Manila? A recommendation would be Davao City. Lots of activities and dining possibilities. There is even a Swiss Deli in Lanang. And if you want to go swimming just head to Samal island. Do you like to live in an enjoyable climate then try to find a rental in The Eden area in Davao City. One caveat in the Philippines is that many rentals have a minimum rental duration of one year.
  2. Would agree but can you be sure that there are up to date alternators being installed in the cars being sold on the Philippines?
  3. Short distance driving (up to 15 km) is not good either for a battery. It will then not be recharged well while that short distance. A special off car battery pulse charger with recondition function can revive a battery as long it is not too far down. A very good brand for battery charger is CTEK.
  4. Most dead people in the traffic in the Philippines are motorcycle drivers and coriders. It is much saver to use a car in the Philippines.
  5. You can also find a leakage by the sound it makes. The company which did searched our leakage used a highly sensitive microphone to locate it. A bigger leak makes bigger noises.
  6. That is nothing against what happened to me in Switzerland. The water tube to my house is leaking. At the attempt to locate the leakage they did accidentally broken the main valve. Damage: a broken street. Monetal damage including fixing the street, the new piping and replacing of the damaged electrical installation between 50k and 100k US$. Fortunately is the insurance paying that damage. For the TS case it is better to repipe if the leak can not be found.
  7. I heard also that MDMA (extasy) can be working quite well also on a PTSD.
  8. Ormoc would have been the better city in the case of hospitals. I heard terrible stuff about the hospitals in San Carlos City (NegOcc) being undermanned and have inequate personel. I heard even of several cases where relatives had to bribe the ambulance car driver for rushing patients to Dumaguete. In my case I can still not decide where to live in the future. My wife stated to me that she do no longer want to live in the Philippines full time due the hospital issue. This makes the situation even worse.
  9. BTW: did you checked also on OLX and other real estate sites (and even searching on facebook) for rentals in the area to get a grip about the rental costs. (Wow. On OLX can currently no rental be found in the specific area.) And then do the boot work in the area. You can also try to ask tricycle and jeepney drivers if they know something.
  10. That there are still so many stupid people not learning the lessons that owning or trading drugs in the Philippines (and other countries) are dangerous or even being deadly.
  11. After Xoom closed my account without explaining why I switched also to Worldremit and never had any issues with them. Probably Xoom closed my account because I did not had an US credit card. Yeah. 3 months not used Xoom after the last successful transaction just to find my account being closed.
  12. In Ormoc City they are planning to turn the burned down Gaisano Capital into a car park with shopping stalls on the side.
  13. Fixed the link in my posting Edit: something is messing up the link again Another try here.
  14. Poles in the streets seems more common than we can believe.
  15. I do use Candesartan from Sandoz. Good alternative if you have issues with ACE- blockers. Me had to change from ACE-blockers due severe cough caused by them.
  16. Do you need still more blood? I can put also a request on the Dumaguete forum. 0+ blood should be quite easy to attain in the Philippine.
  17. I guess his wife. But that guy did blamed himself. Why did he not got the necessary permits in advance? Instead he started a verbal fight against the goverment. I do not have any regrets with him.
  18. Primary I did choosen Buhangin area due the fact that most stuff is reachable with just one not so long ride. From Toril it is a quite long ride to downtown and most time I would need a second ride to reach my destination. A great location for living would be either in Cabantian Proper (Chula Vista) or the Amani Grand. Bad that the one only have 1 BR condos and no 2 BR condos. How is the waste and garbage management in the Buhangin area? Mintal will get a mall probably end of next year. Buhangin will get 4 malls in near future. That makes it less necessary to ride to downtown for shopping. And probsbly they will lower the traffic to downtown.
  19. Sources from the skycraper forum. Quite surprising that these are nearly sold out. As long the people seems to have the money for such expensive real estates, the balloon will grow further.
  20. Another question did arisen: How well ist the waste and garbage management in the Buhangin area?
  21. With Toril can the same thing happens as like in Cabantian. Toril was in the consideration especially for the nice Eden area. Two malls, only small hospitals, lack of public transportation to Eden and long rides to the downtown caused me to step it down but not completely removed in my consideration. From the west sector Toril is still the best area. One backdraw of Cabantian or Buhangin Proper is the lack of a hospital. But at least from the Proper it is not far to the SPMC. Darn that they don't have 2 BR condos in the Amani Grand. Looks like a near perfect location.
  22. Costs in Manila have a huge variation. Depends where you will work, school costs, costs for living, costs for rent for a house or apartment, costs of own vehicle and much more. In one area $1500 will be enough while in another area $3000 will not be enough. For working as a tax manager you'll need either a working visa or an SRRV visa.
  23. In general I would agree but see below. It is the plan to move in 8 years because of our daughter. But I'm forced to sell our house in Switzerland in this year. Myself being handicapped and the goverment allowance for an apartment is very low. It is very difficult to find a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment with that low amount. And my daughter needs special aid in the school. That aid is only available in few cities and towns, which makes the searching for an apartment even more difficult. A possible result can be that we would have still to move in this or next year to the Philippines. Therefore it is not a dreaming but a preparation of a backup solution if everything else fails. Something similar happened to another forum member in a german philippine forum. He planned to move in six years so that his daughter can finish school and apprenticeship in Switzerland. But then his accident insurance did cut his daily allowance by 3/4 after changing it into a pension. Due his pension is not counted as a disability pension he was not entitled to get additional pensions and aids. Result was that he moved with his family the last February this year to the Philippines.
  24. Correct. Check and test before buy. Because a mistake can get enormous expensive. On the driving case, why I want to check for available public transportation near of a possible living location. When I would be familiar to the city then I can get onto driving on my own. Public transportation is also a sort of backup if the car gets broken down. Thanks a lot for the Chess link. I know that the jeepney prices are regulated but I was not able to find actual jeepney prices fare matrixes especially for the CBD - Cabantian route. We plan not to move in the next 8 years due our daughter should finish the school and apprenticeship in Switzerland. But due the sick increasements in the real estate prices we will probably buy something next year.
  25. We plan to go there in year 2019. Davao is a big city therefore it would be nice to get some help. Available swimming possibilities seems also depending on the subdivision.
