  1. Hey Wolf! Welcome to the forum. In my experience regarding throw aways, it's a moving target and changes daily, weekly, monthly, etc. In other words, I've not found a specific place that's cheaper, you just have to spend a little time searching for what happens to be the best price at the time you are traveling. And I agree with OnMyWay that at this time round trips might be cheaper too. Each time I purchased a throw away, it was to a different place. Good luck to you my friend and again, welcome to the gang.
  2. Thanks Freebie. I'm currently visiting my family in Hawaii for a few weeks and this One Pass is my greatest fear (getting it right. Your info is greatly appreciated,
  3. Lord help me, but I had to book PAL from Manila to Honolulu on April 3. I've been holding my breath and hoping there's no issues. I, also, swore I would never fly them again, but was forced to this time due to time restraints. So I stopped with my never's. I hurt for you Gas, but I'm happy you and the Wife finally got your money back. Brett, sounds like yours is ending up pretty good. Four weeks and their paying for the room too.
  4. You're exactly correct Dave. It's not only faulty, it's just downright dumb logic, and as with most ideas/decisions coming from that direction, this proposal lacks long term thought or factual evidence that it would do anything BUT help save costs or energy. It would succeed in taking a slow and unproductive government agencies and make them even slower and more unproductive. In regards to corporate and private businesses, most would either ignore it or devise a way to reduce employee pay even more. Most businesses and some gov agencies, already have their hours set at what is most profitable for them. Forcing them into a 10 hour schedule will only create lag time or unprofitable time. This scenario has been "table topped" by hundreds (even thousands) of countries, businesses, etc. over the years, and, after a many hours of study and research, most all of them have found it more costly, less productive, and ultimately a financial loss instead of improvement. Now, after a couple of Johnnie Walker Red's, our hero comes up with a 4 day week during the election season to suggest a reduction of work days, but improved financials. Great idea! 😎
  5. That's exactly what I deal with! Expensive doors, but that are full of duct tape to keep the bugs out and the a/c from escaping. I think having the a/c on the inside, coupled with the heat/humidity on the outside might help it crack. Oh well, my wife tries to make the duct tape look like a decorative design. 😁
  6. This is very true Greg! Great suggestion. And some banks are willing to negotiate without getting offended. Thanks my friend!
  7. On the "Lola" thing also...... Man, you couldn't be more correct!!! I tried for years to convince my wife that it was OK to eat chicken if she had a small rash. Forget it!!! It's nothing but pork and some beef when the rash pops up (even on me). And "no sex" when you're pregnant!!! It can injure the babies head and they are born with dimples on the top of their head. Oh, and their hair won't grow where the dimples are.......😲 As a result.....no more kids for us!!! But I was interested when I read the comment about showing the midriff, so I ask my wife what she thought and as I expected, she believes it too!!! And let's not get started about what can happen to a baby if a pregnant mom or dad pisses off a frog!!! 🤢 On the subject of new/used cars. I agree with you 100%. New is the only way to go and it's much cheaper too in the long run. The local sellers of used cars put outrages prices on them and the DP request is ludicrous!!! They won't guarantee the condition or operations of the vehicle, but the price it 85 to 95% of a new one. Then they demand 40 to 50% DP, when a new car has a warranty and you can get some great deals on all included DPs. The sellers want to recoup every peso they can from when they bought it new. All I can say is....there must be a heck of a lot of used cars sitting around!!!
  8. You're playing word games RBM. What I said WAS true. Exit clearance is exit clearance, no matter what you want to call it. But to satisfy you, EVERYONE must get clearance from the PRA before they depart the country. If you try to leave the country without it, you will be denied. BDM, are you related to this Agency/Agent you are advertising? Please give us the name of this "free" agency so everyone can get this help without a fee.
  9. Interesting Jolly. I checked with 5 different agencies and everyone of them required the same fee. No, I doubt I got ripped off, but I definitely paid for services I did not receive. But it's interesting to know that they are receiving a kickback from the PRA, which amounts to me paying them twice. Oh well, as I said, my choice; my consequences. And by the way, I'm still required to get exit clearance before I can depart the country. Let each make their own decision and my best wishes to all.
  10. Good info Freebie. If you she helped you open a bank account in 5 minutes, then completed a physical in 5 minutes, and then processed you through the NBI in 5 minutes (which according to the PRA, only the Manila NBI office can conduct the clearance needed and provide the documents required by the PRA), then you've got a goldmine with this person. If possible, please share her name and/or agency with me as I could definitely benefit from her services and/or connections. Heck, it took me AND the agent 4 weeks just to get the NBI part done. What a great deal you had. Please share the agency name if possible. Thanks much!
  11. Does Frank look a lot like Biden too? Or is it my inherent mind that makes all dumb-aXXes look the same??? (Sorry guys, I will keep my love and compassion for my countries leader to myself)
  12. To my simple knowledge Freebie, there are 2 key steps. First, make sure your VPN is on your router. The VPN gives instructions on this in their web site. I got the password from a service tech and I gratefully "tipped" him for his excellent service. If you have trouble with this, try GeoffH's recommendation as this works pretty good too. Second, if possible, set up your Fire Stick (ROKU or other streaming stick) in the US, UK, Aussie, or your home country, so it doesn't reflect the Philippines as your base location. If you are already here, try to do the base setup with the VPN on and use the server location you have chosen as your home base. Keep in mind, as was also mentioned in Geoff's entries, this is a constant battle/war going on between the streaming companies and the VPN engineers. It's a pretty wicked fight from what the Express engineer told me. What works for a while, may suddenly not work. We had 3 series we watched regularly on Netflix and I found them on HULU TV and it seems HULU is not involved in the war yet????? Good luck my friend and if I can help, let me know.
  13. In my opinion, the SRRV is a scam designed to draw additional money from the "rich foreigners". The benefits are virtually NIL and currently (after opening travel again) I have virtually the same benefits as my tourist friends. I ask when I was paying, where does this money go? Do the scores of board members listed each get a share? All I was told was "it goes to the Philippines". I truly regret ever submitting my application as I will never see any of it again and I would be just as well off as a tourist now. But life is about living with the consequences of our decisions and I will live with this one. To all my friends considering it..... please think twice before going forward with it and compare the benefits to what has happened over the past year or two. The PRA has NO (zero) clout in the government and any benefit claimed can be rescinded in a second. Additionally, don't bother with these so called agencies that help you get the SRRV as they are no help, no value add, to the process what so ever. They charge you $400 to $600 (20,000 to 30,000 pesos) additional just to take it to the shipping agency and mail to Manila. They claim to streamline and make the process simple, but reality is, no matter what, YOU have to complete all of the requirements yourself and your trip to their office (agency) can be changed to a trip to the shipping agency, and you save the money. The PRA people will give you the exact same information and it's them, not the fix it agency, that pre-certifies it. I assure you, the only benefit of these agencies is that they mail it for you. These are my thoughts and opinions after going through the process. Good luck to you all my friends. john
  14. Geoff recapped it nicely. Thanks, My additional 2 pesos......I was a big fan of Express VPN until recently (around the time the company was sold to a Middle Eastern company). I started having problems with not being able to get connections with US servers, regardless of the time or location. The biggest problem was with Netflix. We would be 5 minutes into a movie or series and it would suddenly stop, and a screen would appear saying I was using a VPN and must shut it off. EXTREMELY frustrating as we could not reconnect, so off to bed early. After many "hours" (yes really, hours) with customer service, one tech finally informed me that they had a dispute with Netflix and the connection was not stable. They said their engineers were working on it, but nothing they could do for now. So, after a couple of years with Express VPN, I switched to Nord VPN and BINGO!!! the problem went away and now no issues. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but for me my number 1 is now Nord VPN.
  15. Thanks Snowy and all for this update and info. It always amazes me that without you kind folks spreading the word about these CRITICAL changes, nobody would ever find out until it's too late. I've downloaded this updated VaxCert and all is well. Thanks again my friends. john
  16. Gas, I'm traveling to my home in Hawaii to visit mom and sis, and get my annual (2 years late ) medical and prescription refills. I have had to delay my travel 3 times so far and now I'm shooting for March 10th. My wife will stay behind this time as I don't trust the system enough for both of us to be gone at the same time. I.E. getting stuck away from the kids. It is my understanding that VaxCert is not required in the US, but will be accepted if that's what you have. The absolute requirement of VaxCert is a Philippines thing, but again, this is my understanding so check the place you are traveling too to be sure. In Hawaii, it's not "required".
  17. My friends, make sure you have ample time when you start this process. In other words, don't wait until the last minute before you travel as there are many glitches in this system that cause delays. It took me almost 2 months to get the updated VaxCert with the frustration peaking out numerous times. In short, you must get your local health office (where ever you received your shot) to "upload" your shot file/record to a common system so the VaxCert office (system) in Manila can do their magic and enable you to receive the email so you can print your new card. In my case, it took 3+ weeks to get them to do the upload; then, when it still didn't show up, I went through the process of finding each mistake made by the person typing the file in at my local health office. First, they had by birthday wrong, then they misspelled my last name, then they didn't put a space between my first name and middle name, and finally, they put that I was a Sr instead of Jr, which is correct. In each instance, it caused my file to not show up for the office in Manila and they could not locate it. Everything must be exactly correct or it disappears into unknown space. I would recommend, if possible, to verify your file entry at your local health office, and again, don't wait until the last minute. Hopefully, everyone else experience is/was much smoother than mine and that I was just an exception. Good luck to you. john
  18. Everything changes here in political season. Suddenly the administration is pro US and declining China and the disputed islands. Every day you hear of another previously unpopular policy or position that's changed to appease. Either people are extremely gullible or leaders have extremely short memories. Oh well, if I said it it has to be true, unless I totally contradicted myself in an earlier tirade......... in that case, you misunderstood and I was just joking.
  19. What a great idea and effort. We need that so badly here in Northern Mindanao. I would gladly help start one here, or donate to those who are making the effort. Thanks for the info Mike!
  20. I think it's a good idea for those who already have the initial vaccination. I will get the booster when it's available.
  21. Jolly, I think it ridiculous that the landlord would charge for that since the AC belongs to the landlord and nothing was specified in the lease. How much does he want to charge you? I think I would consider bringing the dispute to the barangay captain as there seems to be no basis to charge this to you. My thoughts my friend.
  22. I agree with most all of what has been said, and without any doubt, businesses lack virtually no competence in the supervisor/management positions at any level. Most places I've been to use their security guards as their day to day supervision with a complete absence of even basic supervision. I believe this is primarily due to the " King Syndrome", which is when a person who is elevated into a management position, suddenly starts acting like the King and dumps his/her responsibilities on those below them. They are now "above" the workforce and want all to know it . Example....My wife and I went in to a department store and in their furniture area, we found an item we were looking for....but it had a slight damage that I knew I could fix myself. I ask the clerk if they would offer a slight amount off, and he stated only the manager could authorize that. I ask him to please confer with the manager, and he stated "he wasn't allowed too". My wife and I, then said we would talk to the manager. The clerk told us where his office was, but ask my wife to not tell the manager he told us or he would get in trouble. We proceeded, knocked on the door, and a secretary answered and ask us to please wait and she would get the manager. About 15 minutes later, she returned and told us that it was company policy that the manager was not allowed to talk with the customers. That, my friends, is the reason why these rankings Mike J shared with us continue to doom this country.
  23. One More, this is just my thoughts.........It doesn't matter who you use to get your shipment from its destination, when it gets to the Philippines it slow, slower, and slowest. I have found that the shipper from the origin has to hand it off to a local shipper and that's where it falls apart. Good Luck my friend.
  24. Is there a waiting list? I'd love to get on it.
  25. HK.....unless I am mistaken, Cignal is owned by PLDT corporate. I don't see any way someone could afford or want the Cignal service. But then again, who knows........Thanks for the info.
