Move. Someone tried once and nothing bad happened to them. They will come back again, or someone else will. That was my experience. The alternative is to defend yourself because the chances of the police or security guards doing that are almost nil. But you say you are a non violent type so defending yourself will been hiring a security guard who works for you. Those kind will defend you to the extent of their ability. At least this was my personal experience.

Hey Stroker good to see you back on and sorry to hear of your problem. I believe this company SSMi installs alarms since someone told me about it and it stuck in my mind because it has SM in it, so I looked it up for you. At least it would be worth a phone call. As others have said, an alarm is only as good as it waking you up, how your neighbors and the guards respond or react to it. and helping to alert you to get ready, so a good heavy baseball bat, a can of high pressure Wasp spray found in most hardware stores to spray them in the eyes while they are still at a distance from you, and being extra nice to the guards and telling the guards you would reward them any time they assisted you if your alarm goes off, might be of value. I buy our guards lunch and snacks once in a while and give them coffee or sodas and have even taken some of them out drinking with the guys, so I earned their respect and friendship and they always look out for me because of that.Stay safe and moving might be a good idea as well, if you actually feel it is because of some interactions you have had. Be safe my friend.
Hey Lee, that is exactly what I was looking for. I just emailed them. It's kinda early, not sure when they open.

Thanks Hounddriver. Thing is, if I run, where do I run to? I'm sure robberies isn't only a problem in my subdivision. No matter where I go someone might try and break in. Of course I'll do my best to defend myself. But it depends on what I'm faced with of course. Bringing a knife to a gunfight is a common mistake and over here it would be me bringing the knife. Of course when it comes to life and death I'll do my best to defend myself but I'm just trying to do the best I can with the resources I have. Moving is not an option for me. I don't think moving is the best solution. Unless I find someplace way better for way less money and way safer, but I think the chances of that are kinda slim. Maybe I'm overthinking the problem. I've been up all night cause now I won't sleep at night, I don't feel too safe. Yeah moving is a grea idea, I just think there must be a cheaper and easier solution. I'll definitely be trying some of the things that have been suggested. I just feel kinda screwed right now. Things have been going downhill fast the last few months. I'm starting to wonder if someone cursed me and I need to find a witch doctor.

We see things a little different. I 'move' when I don't feel wanted in the neighborhood. I have lived in 5 different rental places (in Philippines and usually near Cebu) in 5 years. There was only one where I was subjected to robberies and similar crimes. The other 4 were just fine. I found out there was a certain group operating in that area and I let them have their 'turf'. I don't consider that running but if you do, then preparing for more of the same is definitely wise. Why do I keep moving? Places get sold, rents get increased, wife wanted to be close to her family, and then . . . I just like to see new places.

Let me and others know if it works out, in case others might also wish to get an alarm. Also a move to a condo might also work to keep you safer, since the guards do not even let strangers into the building, and no one can carry out electronics etc unless they have written permission from the association. Condos are not for everyone but my wife and I enjoy our time in ours, so it might work for some others who do not mind living in that type of place, and who can do without pets. Edited by Mr. Lee

No pets??? But Lee, I have been to your condo. I can hear your chickens / roosters quite clearly. Well maybe you don't think of them as your pets.....

Myself? I think I would be sucking up to the guards already at your location with snacks, drinks and dinners and possibly hiring another guard for the house! Then again, I would probably have been doing that since Day 1 of moving there. You always get better service when you've bought and paid for it yourself.... usually that is!I always hear that you should never do anything to make a local lose face but would it be wrong to ask the police to have a talk with your ex-maid? This I'm not sure about... Anyone?

If you are electrically inclined you can buy all the material yourself at most major hardware stores here and build what you want ...... I bought a motion sensor ..... flood light and wang wang wang alarm and hooked them up ..... tied the sensor into a 4x4 duplex electric receptacle box on a 12ft extension cord ..... now with the 4 outlets I can plug in any amount of of items that will come on when the sensor is activated .... and as the system can be moved to any electrical receptacle in the house both inside and outside (under cover that is) it is a truly portable system ...... bought all the stuff in True Value in Ayala Cebu ...... took a couple of hours to hook up ..... if you don't need a 4x4 with 2 receptacles you can use a single gang box with just one receptacle ...... just remember you are using 220 here which means you will have a hot leg on each side of the receptacle ....... not like with 120v where you have one hot leg and one neutral leg ...... really simple like I said ..... the motion detector simply makes or breaks the one leg to the receptacle .... so when the detector comes on it completes the normally closed circuit causing anything you have plugged in to activate ......
