Jollygoodfellow Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 New concept, what do you think? Tune Hotels has successfully pioneered a branded value hotel brand with the concept of pay-as-you-use that has become hugely popular amongst travelers from across the world.Under the concept, guests only pay for room rates with the option of adding on other amenities like towels and toiletries, air-conditioning, in-room WiFi and satellite TV service at selected hotels. Forum Support Dave Hounddriver Posted February 10, 2012 Forum Support Posted February 10, 2012 Sounds like a gimic. I can understand extra for high power usage things like an air conditioner, but tv and wifi cost the hotel the same whether you use them or not so why would they be justified in charging any extra for them? Genius Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I ve stayed in Tune Hotels in Malaysia, uber basic. Cheap. Was ok, but quite good hotels in Malaysia were quite cheap too, so did not see the point of it really, but in expensive cities, if they can maintain the 'cheap', would be worth a go i think.
Forum Support Dave Hounddriver Posted February 10, 2012 Forum Support Posted February 10, 2012 (edited) Makes no difference if the cost to them is the same, its what it cost you in the end that counts. I don't see it that way. Basic economics says they have a price they have to charge to make a profit. That means they have to calculate all their expenses and charge accordingly. It means they have already included costs of WIFI and Cable tv in the price they must charge you because they have to pay for it. So when you ask for those services, and they charge you extra, it really does cost you 'in the end' because that is where they are sticking it to you.Its a gimmick. A good one as some will fall for it, but I contend that you will pay MORE for your room when you add 'optional' services than you would pay at a similar competing hotel. JJReyes Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 It's a good concept. Why pay for services you don't need. My pet peeve is the hotel swimming pool which I never use. Yet the construction and maintenance is included in whatever I am charged. Of course, I got mad when Marriott Cebu City wanted to charge $20 extra for an Internet connection. I decided to walk to an Internet cafe at the Ayala Mall for email. So long as the add on services are reasonably priced, I like the concept behind Tune Hotels. This way if its done correctly you can decide before booking. :SugarwareZ-037:
i am bob Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 I"m not sure if it's the same chain as I read about (sometime in 2011) but the idea for the tv was less use means the tv will last longer, a more modest cable contract was secured and less power consumption. And they followed the same idea for the WIFI. Overall, there was a major savings in costs for what was not used such as less manpower to run the hotel, electrical, bandwidth needed for internet, even the soaps and shampoo. And what they saved was passed on to their customers.
JJReyes Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Years ago, during our limited budget days, my wife and I stayed at the Hotel Urashima in Tokyo. The television was coin operated. I had to enter the toilet/shower sideways to get inside because they were tiny cubicles. You had to climb over the bed to get to the other side. Out of curiosity, I looked at the pictures for Tune Hotel in Angeles City. The rooms are very tiny. However, the introductory rates are fantastic.
