Top Places In Philippines You Would Consider Living

My top two locations are Cebu and Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai, of course, not being in the Philippines. As the retirement possibility quickly firms into reality I am really looking for any advice on locations I can get. Cebu seems like a very good option. Big enough to have most everything I would want. But not Manilla big. And it is an easy place to travel from for nice vacations. So all I have really been looking at lately is what part of Cebu. I have heard some nice things about the Baguio cooler weather but the rainfall seems a bit much.
I looked at Chang Mai also. Infrastructure seems to be better in Thailand, but with wider spoken English, ease and variety of travel and much easier visa extensions the Philippines is a much better location for retirement overall IMO.

I know Chiang Mai quite well and it was top of my list of places to retire......Fillipinas do seem to be much nicer natured than their Thai counterparts so for me that is a big consideration. I'll be moving to the Philippines .....Davao or Samal Island for me

With no family considerations, the only other place I would consider for living full time would be Cebu City.Metro Cebu has- Historical sights/sites dating back to 1521- Diving from Mactan island- Island hopping from Mactan island- Multiple Beach resorts on Mactan Island where you can pay to use the facilities for the day- Multiple sports such as Badminton, Tennis, Golf, Ten Pin Bowling, Pool/Billiards, Running, Swimming, Cycling.- Several cockfighting complexes.- A couple of the biggest shopping malls in the world. SM Mall is the worlds 14th biggest mall.- Multiple fitness centres- Top class medical facilities such as Chong Hua Hospital. and the cancer specialist hospital Perpetual Succour.- Multiple swimming pool complexes where you can picnic for the day such as Villa Terisita and Tubod Flowing Waters- Western style airconditioned digital surround sound cinemas, including an Imax Theatre in SM Mall.- Multiple locations with live music most nights- There are a huge number of discos to choose from- Multiple dining choices for cuisine from countries such as Japan, India, China, Italy, Thailand etc.- Multiple fast food outlets- Multiple coffee shops- Multiple expat drinking only bars. Usually with large screen TV's for watching sporting programmes- Regular expat get togethersCebu province also has several of the top tourist locations in the Philippines such as Bantayan Island and Malapascua Island. It is also a short trip to the famous tourist island of Bohol.Cebu can also be used as a hub to travel to most of the rest of the Philippines. It also has an international airport for flying to the rest of the world.Regards: Jim

I couldnt help but notice that most people on this forum like Cebu area and surroundings. I myself have thought of checking it out, tho ive never been there . My grand parents are from Surigao and Cagayan de oro.Still have cousins bouncing back and forth from Los Angeles and Cagayan. I have thought about Palawan Island, But im happy to go back to my hometown of Olongapo, maybe sell some of my inheritance and buy me a small private beach in Zambales province. And travel and see the islands at my leasure. :cheersty: Tanks EJ.
