I Got So Sad News Yesterday

Yesterday one of my best friends sent me an email telling me that his wife's brother was shot and killed in Valencia yesterday ..... here are a portion of 2 emails he sent me

Yesterday

He was on his way home coming through Valencia when a policeman was robbed. Either the policeman or his back-up shot and killed Eduardo and they say it was a "mistaken identity".

Today

The plot thickens. The cop said he saw Eduardo laying in the ditch and called for back-up. Had a gunshot in his left temple and skid marks on the road. ****** is asking for paraffin test, but that's only good up to 5 hours after the discharge. And the cop in question is the Chief of Police's brother. With no witnesses, it's up to the Chief if there is a test or not. When the cop made his report he did a lot of stuttering & stammering!

With the skid marks, I think someone pulled up alongside and shot him at close range. He had made a lot of enemies with the illegal loggers and with a neighbor he took to court for stealing his coconuts. A man too honest to be in a corrupt Gov't job!

No, he left a wife and 3 children behind.

Eduardo worked for the Philippine Coconut Authority and traveled all over the island of Cebu ....... so sad when life means so little ..... my friends wife is flying in on Friday as they live in the US and here part-time ..... she is a fireball and I would hate to be the one she goes after in this mess .....

Rest in peace Eduardo

Yes you have to always be on your guard ....... life means so little when you don't have anything to loose or give up ..... and you never know who is going to be offended or wants to take revenge for something you did or might have done ...... not new to just the Phils but it seems to be much more prevalent here ..... IMHO

Mike,

Sorry to hear such sad news.

I might add that if he was shot in the head then they should be able to retrieve the bullet that killed him. This bullet could then be compared against the officers gun for a possible match. With out knowing the caliber of weapon or type of ammo it is hard for me to say how difficult it would be but it certainly would be a starting point. Gunshot residue can also be obtained well after 5 hours.

Good luck

It is so sad to hear of losses like this and as you say, most always over such petty issues. When I read the news in the Philippines, and a story comes up about a shooting... it is most always accompanied by a mention of how their was bad blood or a disagreement or something that lead up to the senseless violence, as if in some way that justifies the action. It is just devestating to think of what this family must now go through and that it was possibly the result of someone trying to do their part to combat corruption.

Our condolences to the family
