Forum Support Old55 Posted May 30, 2012 Forum Support Posted May 30, 2012 From IMDb "Two years in the lives of four Filipino Amerasians, as they struggle to overcome a past they are in no way responsible for. " It looks like it could be somewhat biased but I could be wrong. Should be of interest to view. http://www.pbs.org/independentlens/left-by-the-ship/
samatm Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 (edited) Looks like a well done documentary. I would like to see more. I think these abandoned young people should be allowed compensation in some form from their BIO dads ! . I think every serviceman (or woman) serving should be put on notice that with today's technology any left behind bundle will have the right to DNA Screening and matching and the service-personnel will be held responsible (monetarily at least ). Call me bubba Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 they help those who can show a US citizenship link Tracing Service Since majority of AAP’s clients are deserted by their American fathers, the AAP, in partnership with the Philippine National Red Cross, assists children in their quest of their roots. Contact with other agencies which may be of help are also being tapped. For 2006, AAP has located 3 fathers of our beneficiaries. One of them has expressed to support his children, and possibly get them repatriated to the US. http://americanassoc...hilippines.org/ http://www.philippin...on-philippines/
andre007 Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 The entire film is being played here until http://video.pbs.org/video/2238356247 May 31st s since we are ahead in time you still may have a chance to catch it. I actually joined their FACEBOOK page and a few of their other sites..What bothers me is American Citizenship that they are seeking was granted in every other SE Asian countries but not the Philippines.... I just feel if you can do for others then why not the Philippines.. I just wished them equality and I did pull up some of the YouTube stories and i read their material and I definitely relate to some of their stories of not being accepted because of your color as it is practiced here in the Philippines....So Sad

i am bob Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 This video hits home hard to anyone with a shred of decency and compassion!!! My heart goes out to anyone who has to go through anything like this - no matter where you are! In my travels and especially in my days yachting with the Navy, too many times I ran across others who could care less if they parented a child while off duty... And these people I always considered to be the lowest of the low! Though I have to admit - sometmes there can be a happy ending. One person I had considered to be one of those mentioned above was contacted 6 years after one such port call... Seems he had a little girl out of a one night stand but the mother had kept his name and the name of the ship though she never contacted him to tell him of his daughter... After she passed away (reasons unknown), he was notified and he immediately flew to meet her... She is now his pride and joy and lives with him in Canada along with his new wife and child. I wish more stories could end like this!

I wish more stories could end like this! Perhaps a bit unrelated but a good female friend of mine has a beautiful daughter from her ex who disappeared to someone else a couple of years ago, anyway short story is that I will support this child who starts school for the first time on Monday. I have seen her little uniform and black shoes and she calls me Dadda and I consider my own in a sense. So I guess the moral of the story is help some one, do not turn your back and in the end you will feel much better for it. :11_12_14[1]:

Tukaram (Tim) Posted June 2, 2012 Posted June 2, 2012 When I was in the Navy they made us take condoms from the quarterdeck watch before leaving the ship... not for pregnancies but for diseases. But it still helped prevent extra kids being left around the Pacific. Honestly I couldn't imagine my Navy screwing around days without a condom? Are these guys crazy? You couldn't have paid me to bareback any of those girls - way too many diseases out there. I am certainly not condoning it, but I am not a bit surprised about it. It was a big problem in Vietnam as well (probably Korea, WWII and more). As for leaving kids behind I wonder how many of the guys know they left the woman pregnant? Or simply say that since the women were whores the kid could be anyone's (and they are just LBFM's, right?). Then again we got guys that deny their own kids right here in town with them - you know they would deny them from their military days. People can rationalize their way out of anything they want. For example: I was at a ship reunion a couple years ago and the conversation quickly went to old sea stories of guys tag teaming girls and who screwed how many etc. I can almost assure most of these guys have given no thought to the possibility of kids left behind.
