JJReyes Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 There were suppose to be two landings in Leyte by General Douglas McArthur. During the first one, the General realized that Philippine President Sergio Osmena (2nd Commonwealth president after Manuel Quezon died in the United States) was slightly in front of him for the picture taking. So everyone returned to the landing craft for a go around and another picture taking. The General's biographer claims there were actually two landings as the General was inspecting his troops. On both occasions, the army photographers and newsreel cameramen were sent ahead in another landing craft.

It turned out his I'm sorry, but I don't particularly like General MacArthur. Although he was under orders to abandon his troops in Corregidor Island, he could have remained in command and fought to the bitter end. Thousands of US troops, Filipinos and nurses suffered greatly during that Bataan Death March. His arrogance also got him fired from President Truman during the Korean War. The general over shot his supply lines and suffered many casualties when the Chinese Red army conducted a massive counter strike, pushing all the UN forces back to the 38th parallel.
