There were suppose to be two landings in Leyte by General Douglas McArthur. During the first one, the General realized that Philippine President Sergio Osmena (2nd Commonwealth president after Manuel Quezon died in the United States) was slightly in front of him for the picture taking. So everyone returned to the landing craft for a go around and another picture taking. The General's biographer claims there were actually two landings as the General was inspecting his troops. On both occasions, the army photographers and newsreel cameramen were sent ahead in another landing craft.

In this photo or General MacArthur you can see his grimly determined face. The reason for it he was furious getting his pants wet for the huge photo opp of his return. It's a documented fact General MacArthur had a "landing pad ramp" constructed just underwater at the location he had set up for the film crew and press...... but the Coxswain piloting the Higgins Boat missed the ramp. :hystery: His highness was in a rage.

It turned out his

I'm sorry, but I don't particularly like General MacArthur.  Although he was under orders to abandon

his troops in Corregidor Island, he could have remained in command and fought to the bitter end.

Thousands of US troops, Filipinos and nurses suffered greatly during that Bataan Death March.

His arrogance also got him fired from President Truman during the Korean War.  The general over

shot his supply lines and suffered many casualties when the Chinese Red army conducted a massive

counter strike, pushing all the UN forces back to the 38th parallel.

I'm usually in an alcoholic haze by the time I make it to Mango but I seem to remember some bush

Always well trimmed.
