Popular Post ancienrocka Posted March 16, 2013 Popular Post Posted March 16, 2013 About 4 years ago, a good friend of mine, Mickey Dobie, bought a set of drums, some guitars and amplifiers for a group of Filipino musicians and starting jamming with them every Sunday in Liloan. Mickey, like me, has played in many bands from about the early 60s, however he learned to play guitar properly and went a lot higher up the musical ladder than I did. I’ve been going there for about 3 years and have helped Mickey transform the venue – initially we played in the mud outside the house. Over the years we added a stage, weather protection, a CR, a bar and have upgraded all the musical equipment. · There is no charge for entry · The venue is on the ocean with nice cooling breezes · Beers are 30p for SMP and 20p for Colt 45 · The music is always good and sometimes mind blowing · Anyone can jam with the band or sing a song or two · This is not a commercial operation just a place to have fun · It is a jam not a performance and emphasis is on enjoying playing music – sometimes we make mistakes! Anyone is welcome to come – young and old, great musicians or just not. It starts around 2pm each Sunday and goes on until about 7pm. Each week the jam is different; we have had up to 30 musicians at a session and a crowd of 40+ people, mainly westerners. Directions:- As you go into Liloan from Cebu, you will go around a left hand bend. About 300 metres further on you will see 360 Pharmacy on the left and the OLD Liloan maker on the right. Go right through the market until you reach the road at the back. Look left and you will see Arbee’s bakeshop. The venue – Mickey’s Place – is behind Arbee’s
