LTO to issue new license plates September

MANILA, Philippines – New license plates for vehicles and motorcycles could be issued by the Land Transportation Office (LTO) as early as the end of September, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) announced Tuesday.
DOTC Spokesman Michael Arthur Sagcal said in a statement that the new license plates for motor vehicles (MV) would have a three-letter and four-number combination while motocycles (MC) would have a two-letter and five-number combination.
The new plates will also have a few security features such as reflective sheeting material that will make it visible up to a distance of 100 feet during night or day. It will also contain security images that cannot be removed without destroying the sheet material.
They will have “laser-betched bar codes” that will have data input that can be verified by LTO.
The screws and nuts used to install the plates to the vehicles will also have serial numbers and will undergo an anodization process to prevent tampering and removal.
“The new security features will promote safety and reliability in accordance with international quality standards,” Sagcal said.
“They will prevent the tampering, theft, and falsification of license plates, mitigating carnapping, colorum, and smuggling practices,” he said.
Private vehicle plates will also be in black and white design instead of the current green and white to look similary to the plate design of some European countries and Singapore, the statement said.
DOTC awarded the five year, P 1.989-Billion contract for the supply of MV license plates to a joint venture of J. Knieriem B.V. Goes and Power Plates Development Concepts, Inc.
The separate contract for the supply of motorcycle license plates that costs P 1.196-Billion was also awarded to the same bidder.
The supply contracts will be finalized by the DOTC in 10 days then a Notice to Proceed will be issued. After 30 days, the license plates have to be delivered to the LTO so they can be issued to the public.
“The public can start enjoying the benefits of cutting-edge standardized license plates before the end of September.  They need not wait much longer,” Sagcal said.

LTO to issue new plates next month

MANILA, Philippines - Owners registering new vehicles will start receiving the new license plates by the end of September as the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) awarded the contract for the P3-billion license plate standardization project to a Dutch company and its Filipino partner.

Michael Arthur Sagcal, spokesman for the DOTC, said yesterday that the Land Transportation Office (LTO) would start distributing in September the plates with new alphanumeric design.

Are special 'vanity' plates available? If not, it would be an added source of income for the LTO.

The new plates will have security features including a bar code and the screws and nuts will have serial numbers?  Hell, LTO can't even provide the stickers now, good luck on all that other crap. I registered my motor on February 6, 2013 and I'm still waiting for LTO to get stickers.

Does some European countries actually have serial numbers on the license plate screws and nuts?

I like it.....if that is what it takes to thwart thieves or other miscreants, I am all for it.

A thief is the lowest form of slime I know....whatever their skin color, nationality or ethnic background.

I never realized that license plate thefts and their related anomolies were that bad in the PH, that these steps would be necessary.

Now if I could just convince the LTO to "waive" the weekly conduction permit charges, while these new plates are hammered out.

Things are getting a bit off topic here.

Yes they were and I am sorry if your sensibilites were offended. Really!!

However, often times a particular topic takes a direction of it's own and thoughts wander.

And I think that is a good thing from time to time....I feel it brings out comments, thoughts, life experiences and insights that may never come to the forefront in a totally and unrelated topic.

Take for example.....Mr JJ Reyes would more than likely never revealed his wife had a notion that the law enforcement in Arizona was preventing her from going there. Not that anyone cares, but it does make for good reading and gives us all a better understanding of how different people perceive different things in our lives.

Again...not that anyone cares, but I would have never mentioned I was in law enforcement as a career if I was relegated to a separate topic.

A forum board lives or dies on the comments and insights of it's members. Yes, sometimes they get a bit off track, yet that is where the "real" feelings and intellect of the members comes out.

Without intelligent and "real" experiences.....on or off topic.....a board will simply be just another boring place for old men to vent their frustrations.

I am here to learn, listen and contribute when I can.....those experiences that I have experienced first hand.

I say keep it alive....keep it interesting and when needed, controversial. If the content is decent, clean and not out of bounds where is the foul?...what is the harm in some adults wandering around the sea of life?

Which brings me to why a person would delve into the depths of a topic, which was interesting by the way, and then object that it was off topic....and basically kill the conversation. Couldn't that person just click on to another page?

I know the boss of these pages "liked" your post....but I can only say I hope this does not set the standard where grown men are not allowed to "stray" from time to time and provide an entertaining experience.

Thank you

Now look what you made me do.....totally, undeniably off topic!!!! My bad :bash:

I actually use epoxy glue (not too much) on my vanity plates.  In the US.

I bought another bike (Yamaha 153 cc) in May I think out on Samar and the plate did not arrive until maybe last week. The LTO blamed the dealer for not having the all the paperwork, the dealer blamed the LTO.... I posted about this a while back. I found out that the dealer (DES ?) buys the bikes in a 'lot' and on credit and the importer will not release the actual papers needed to title the bikes until they are paid in full. So 'we' the buyers are at the mercy of the dealer's financial situation and ability to quickly (or not) pay off the importer and get the needed papers to get the bikes titled.

Would this work?  Tell a dealer that you will buy a bike from him after he has a license plate for it. Wouldn't this solve most of the problems mentioned in this topic?

If I need something to drive in a hurry, I will try to buy something only slightly used with current registration as someone once suggested to me. :)

Fair Warning - Off Topic

We have spent a number of years doing volunteer work at the Navajo Indian Reservation and their wealthier cousins, the Yavapai Apaches (casino Indians) in Prescott, Arizona. Our gateway city is Phoenix because Hawaiian Airlines has direct flights from Honolulu. Since the Navajo Nation has the largest land mass extending over four states (Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado), my wife wants to go back by flying to either Salt Lake City or Denver.

We were not stopped, but there was one incident when Sheriff Joe had a checkpoint. I was wearing a white long sleeve shirt and tie for a meeting in Flagstaff, and possibly looked like a Hispanic lawyer. The deputy waived us through.

Good suggestion, but if you ask, they would say this is not possible. The strategy would be to go through all the motions towards the purchase and suddenly inform them that you can leave a small deposit and return with the balance when all the paperwork is completed. This would be a good incentive to work hard in getting the papers all in order.

You made a completely off topic comment in support of Sheriff Joe Arpaio. JGF may not know this, but he is a very controversial public official in the USA. Rather than respond to your comments and perhaps start a flame war I decided to ignore it and just mention that things were getting off topic. I was being diplomatic.

I have refrained many times from expressing my views on other non philippines topics and issues that come up from time to time. Believe me, I have many strong views on issues that I am sure would be contrary to the views of many others on this forum. I refrain from doing this out of respect for this forum since these issues are not the primary focus of the forum.

I generally don't care if a thread goes off topic. As you stated, often those off topic comments can be interesting. I draw the line when the off topic comments go down the road towards controversial non Philippine political/policy issues or off topic comments from some forum members who keep beating on the same old tired drum.

Peace
