Dual Citizenship For The Spouse

Was going to title this for those married to Filipina's but then remembered Jake's status. :)

A few months ago my wife became a US citizen. She also now has a US Passport. Today we were in Milpitas, CA to process paperwork for her dual citizen status. They had an outreach day with staff from the San Francisco Philippine Consulate. Super easy. We supplied copies of her birth certificate, certificate of US Naturalization, Marriage certificate, duly filled out form and $50 USD. No problems at all.

She also renewed her Philippine passport. That one was a fee of $60 USD + $20 USD mailing fee. So for $80 USD she now has a second passport aside from her US passport. The passport was reissued after the dual citizenship oath was taken. I had to go get copies of that certificate before they would issue it. Fortunately a travel agency was open across from where they were conducting the outreach program. $1.25 for the copies, could have been worse.

When she comes back to visit the Philippines, she should show both passports to immigration.

The subject was discussed by the Deputy Consulate. He said if we were to stay less than 30 days then just show the US Passport. To take advantage of the Balikbayan VISA, take a copy of the reacquisition of citizenship or the Philippine Passport or both.
