I think you meant multi-thousandaires...   100kphp / 43 = 2,326USD  which is not at all an unreasonable amount for an American to donate.  Or did you mean 100k USD (in which case I agree)?

My mistake. The amount I was thinking while writing was USD and not PHP. I am unable to donate PHP100,000 for that matter at this time. We are committed to funding the construction of one house for a family who lost everything to Typhoon Pablo.

My wife and I had lunch today with a couple from Canada. The Canadian government is offering a dollar-for-dollar match for all donations to Yolanda typhoon victims. One difficulty is the Department of Social Welfare & Development is insisting that all donations be coursed through them or to designated NGOs like the Philippine Red Cross whose Chairman Richard Gordon is a well connected politician. Our friends own the largest Balikbayan boxes and dollar remittance company in Canada. They have offered to ship all donated goods from Canadians for free.
