Why Members Don't Post?

Maybe people aren't posting or replying to posts so often, because they don't have easy access to all the latest posts? Perhaps there should be a Homepage "portal" showing all the latest discussions (in the same way as "another forum")? Just my 2 pesos. Personally, I use the "Today's Active Content" link, which can be accessed from the homepage to the right just below search.Meanwhile, how about having a look at my wonderful post located herebiggrin.gif And you're most welcome to make a commentyes.gifAndrew
I use these on the main page to find New Content or Today's Active Content.

Also todays active content is also on this very page you are reading from and recent added topics are on the side bar of the index page.

Thanks for the tips guys. Yep, I use the today's active content page. Just thought for someone new to forums, having all the recent posts on the main (home) page may make it a little easier keeping up to date with the latest posts. Anyway, just a thoughtsmile.gif Personally, I think the Philippines expat forum should grow to become quite popular with time. It's still a pretty new forum.Andrew

Very true but we are looking for quality and not quantity and we discourage people who wish to insult each other or be totally negative about the Philippines. Balance and telling the truth is what I and others feel is the correct thing to do. I remember back a couple of years ago and on another forum where people were telling all the members that Cebu and the Philippines was a paradise and how the women were just there for the picking and while that may be true to some degree, I feel that good women may not be as easily found just anywhere. It will all depend on what a man wants in a woman. Anyway one member got to Cebu City and got pretty disgusted and came to spend time talking to my wife and I and he then found himself a great wife and not because I know it all but because I told him to make a profile on FH and say exactly what he wanted in a woman and that he would not be someones ATM and it just so happened to work out, but he was ready to leave Cebu to never return again because he had been totally mislead by that forum. And then I remember one member who was so excited about coming to Cebu that he kept counting down days until arriving in Cebu and then when he got there and saw what Cebu actually was while on his way to his hotel from the airport he posted something like " is this what all of Cebu looks like" and was pretty disgusted. I feel that people should know what to expect and not be told a bunch of lies from one person who just happens to think they are the know all and end all to all that is known about a place, because we are all different and all have different wants and needs and no one person can know what another person would accept or expect unless that person also tells it like it is. On many forums members ask questions about how to get there and where to stay, but they neglect to read all the posts and many of the posts are just down right lies IMO, so telling people the truth is what we hope to do and have a balance on both sides of a discussion because none of us are Gods so if one member feels the Philippines is paradise another should then give his side and that member should be able to make up his own mind but not go into something totally blinding with bs. All this in my humble opinion and of how I see things and others are welcome to post their opinions and views.

Don't think of them as lies. Think of them as an alternate reality. SugarwareZ-011.gif Just remember with knowledge come responsibility.

Exactly, and I guess when you drink 24/7 then knowing the difference is often hard to see.

Andrew, I think I understand what you are suggesting now. Maybe you mean hot topics, topics that people seem to like and are replying to most often and also those that people have replied to or started recently. I think one of the problems that Boss Man and myself have is that we are usually on daily, so we do not see what other members may see when they only check in once in a while and each of us may use the forum in a different way. Thank you for bringing this to Tom's attention and while most forum owners do not like to copy other forums in what they do, Tom has often implemented things that were practical for his forum and that members have suggested. So please keep those suggestions coming and please do not be insulted if not all of them are used right away or not at all because if all forums were just clones of each other then what fun would that be.Running a forum takes a lot of time and effort and Tom has to work for a living, so he cannot be on 100% of the time to work on this forum as some others seem to be able to do, but as time goes on he does add things all the time and he has some things he has been waiting to add but just has not had time to do them yet. There are many things that he also has to try to add to make it easier for those of us who moderate the forum and he has been doing a lot of that behind the scenes that members never get to see. While so far all the members on this forum do not require actual moderation, there are many other things that moderators have to do such as stop spammers from spamming the forum and delete and ban them and delete their spam posts while also approving new members and their posts and then moving them to full members once they have proven themselves to be actual members who can contribute to this forum. I think the main thing is that we who are on the forum most of the time, all appreciate all of the members who come on and read and especially those who post when they have time to and the more the merrier. This forum has grown a lot over the last year and I suspect that it will grow much more by next year as well, and the more members who can donate some of their time to answer members questions then the faster it can grow. Thanks all and please keep posting your thoughts. .

That's exactly what I was talking about! Lee and Tom, thanks for all the time and effort you have put into this forum (I can see how much work you have done). I'm sure it will become very popular as time goes onAddEmoticons04230.gifAndrew

Hiya: Everyone is spot on. It is just so much safer to read others post, trying to find answers, that posting yourself. I have been on many boards, of all different types, and seen responces to perfectly good questions just drive people away.Q. I have a pair of 10's vs the dealer 6 up card. Do i stand, or split?A. Geeeez, if you don't know the answer to that why are you playing balack jack? Hell, why are you even in a Casino?Q. My pet Dragon in the game is not gaining skills very fast, why?A. Why don't you learn to play the game for yourself, instead of having to rely on a overpowerd dragon that should not be tamable in the first place.Q. I helped my neighbor paint his house, and he gave me beer, and $200. Do i have to claim the money as income on my tax return?A. WTF? You should be sent to jail just for asking that. YES. If you find a penny on the ground, you have to claim it. If you hate your country so much, leave....and so on like this. So why take a chance posting? Also, regarding this forum, i understand the reason behind it, but most other places do have you wait, "for approval", for your first few post to appear. I just wonder how many joined, posted, got that message, and never posted again because of it?PS: If you want to test your suit of anti flame armor, go to a Philippino forum, and tell them you are an American coming to the philippines, or married to a philipino. It will make every other forum's flames look like complements. I did this a few years ago. I would post the replys i got, but it would violate all the rules of this forum, and not be suitable for persons under 50 years old. SugarwareZ-005.gif
