RBM Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 I have heard a few stories over the years of expats ripping off expats. There is one former expat now residing in Cambodia who often came up with schemes to help you depart with your money, still doing it in ways the members of his site don't realize but people keep throwing money at him. Amazing the amount of followers one can have in this situation. Even when the observations are so clear some people just cannot...will not see. Especially once the devoted disciples join him in scams. We all must be careful and aware expats or locals.

Dave Hounddriver Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 If you really want to know who your friends are just lend them some money. This leads me to an interesting observation about friendship. There are friends who are quite fair financially who would not give you their time if you are in a hospital needing blood and there are friends who would haggle over a peso when they want to buy your used car but who would spend the day at your side when you are dying. Then there are some friends who would do both. I find I have to look to the strengths of the people I call friends and overlook their failings, as I hope they overlook mine.
