No Licences Available

Just went to renew my license and have been given a piece of paper with a provisional date of maybe JULY to pick up my new license.

Ok, I understand there was issues with the existing bidding process for the cards, but surely, if a company has been successfully providing the cards for the last 24 years without issue the answer is to keep bloody using them until such time as new suppliers can be found though the bidding process - not cancel the order and create a backlog that could take years to clear.

Unbelievable that Casinos are able to print and process secure Chip and Pin ID's within 30 seconds, and banks can issue C&P / RFID cards within days and yet the government cannot produce the single most important document that is required for safe passage on the road in a timely manner.

On the upside, i`m sure the dodgy enforcers are less likely to want to seize your "piece of paper" as quickly as a real plastic license.

What license?

Driver's License here in province usually same day, or if you do not want to wait, the next day. Sounds irregular to me, are you sure they are not playing a game waiting for a small gratuity?

Did you use an agent or insider?

Haha, I highly recommend you read the local news on the matter - the issue has been ongoing since last year when the original supplier of license cards was dropped due to a lack of bidding process.

In some provincial offices they might still have some old stock of the original cards which they are able to process.

The LTO have extended the validity of the "piece of paper" until the expiry of the real license, so I guess they have no faith this will be resolved quickly.

And no, I make a point of processing all my documents myself in person no matter what they are.

Some light reading for you ....

OH? My wife got hers same day, paid a small hand to hand payment to someone. Saved the return trip.

:hystery:  :hystery: The fake license guys in Quiapo still have a good supply   They do struggle a bit with spelling and street names.

I like Noy Noy as president, but here in the last portion of his term gov't services do seem to be suffering. Did you notice?

Anti-Corruption for the sake of Anti-Corruption rather than benefiting anyone.

If I break an object and Mend it with sticky tape so it still works, should I take it apart again and stop using it until I find the right glue ?

You don't attempt to fix a problem until there is a solution ready to be put in place, in this case it appears there was actually no problem with the original supplier other than no-one else had tendered for the Job.

Whats the bets the original supplier will get the contract anyhow :p

Just went to renew my license and have been given a piece of paper with a provisional date of maybe JULY to pick up my new license.

That happened to me in Dumaguete last year.  I can't find where I posted the story, but they made me wait 3 or 4 weeks to get my renewed plastic license and I had a paper temp in the meantime.

When I came to pick up the plastic I pointed out where they had made a mistake in my address.  She said "just have a seat and wait a while".  Within 5 minutes, no joke, they had printed me up a replacement plastic card with the correct address on it.  I have no explanation for why they took 3 to 4 weeks to print the first one but perhaps the machine was broken.

Happened to me, went to get my license about 2 months ago in Cebu, was told only paper available at this time, they took my mob number and was told they will call me when the plastic was ready to pick ( yeah right). If it was a con there were about 50 filipino's in on it, they all got paper as well.

I was stopped a few weeks ago by the police for a license check and explained to them the plastic wasn't available and they just accepted that, no problems.

Mind you I am still waiting for my ACR card from a year ago. I now understand anything is possible here and just accept things the way they are.

Its the plastic cards themselves where the shortage lies, the printing machines they use in each office work just fine hence the reason your address was easily corrected once they actually had stock of new cards ;)

Some poor bugger just probably lost out on getting his license for another 3 months because you were being a contrary git and used up the last card in the province hahaha

Gee, I really don't understand what the problem is...  You got your licenses, didn't you?

At present, when we initially apply for a Driver's License, the paperwork has to go in to the head office as the information obtained goes not only to LTO but to another government department (which one I don't remember at the moment, I'll look it up later).  I read about this last summer on (I believe) the LTO site while looking up some information regarding changing licenses over once I arrived... Unfortunately, the databases for the 2 departments are not tied together at this time though they are in the process of changing it.  Once this is done, the licenses can be and will be completed on site.  In the meantime, simple corrections can be accomplished onsite if they have a machine available.

:mocking:  :tiphat:
