Jack Peterson Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 :hystery: Subject to popular belief I was Kid Once and like many children we led a fairly simple life way back then One thing I personally used to look forward to was Comic day, As with many things I can only talk about the UK things but Hopefully others will join in about their own Stories. I Imagine that we all know about the Worlds famorous characters Superman, Batman, Spider man and Such, but for me it was Dan Dare (The 40/50's Astronaut) Winker Watson ( the Boy that never got the Slipper) Roger the Dodger (Who had more excuses than Mantovani had Violins) Desperate Dan (who ate Cow Pie.) Lord Snooty ( Kids Aristocrat) Beryl the Peril ( the UK's answer to just Dennis) OH! the List can Go on and On. Anyone Remember these? (UK I know but maybe others will give some of their own. The Beano, The Dandy, The Eagle,The Topper, The Beezer, again the List goes on. Growing up a Little I moved on to Giles, and Even Punch! Talking to my daughter over the Weekend, she asked why I related to certain things and I was telling her about phrases and cliches that came from the Comic Characters, COOL she said, Don't you have these things here, Shrug Shoulders I Don't know, never Looked, sometimes we get comic Strips with magazines but I don't always Understand them. So guys & gals my offering this Morning is, How many of us Remember and enjoyed these Simple Little Big things in our Lives? or more to the point, has anyone any knowledge of such things here? Jack  Morning All
mogo51 Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 Can't help Jack, remember getting some comics as a young kid about 5, but after that, if I could not hit it with a cricket bat or kick it with a football, I was not interested.

virginprune Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 I used to love my comics too. As well as the ones Jack mentioned, there was the Lion, the Victor and the Hornet. As I got a bit older I graduated to Superman and Batman etc. The last comic/graphic novel I bought regularly was 2000AD, occasionally Viz! I haven't seen anything like those here, however Anime and Manga are big but tend to be films more than comics, some of which are very good.

chris49 Posted October 20, 2015 Posted October 20, 2015 (edited) Yes mate we got the Beano and the British ones in Australia. And we got the Archie comics and all of them from the States. Roy of the Rovers with his mate, Blackie playing for Melchester Rovers in some mythical English First Division, see below. Typically they would fall behind in a key game, the Blackie would cross the ball for Roy to head in. Roy won a number of trophies during his career with Rovers, including nine league titles, eight FA Cups, three League Cups, three European Cups, oneUEFA Cup, and four Cup Winners' Cups, Witch is actually hilarious if you think about in now. Since it was a continuing story you got every issue on a weekly basis. Edited October 20, 2015 by chris49
