RBM Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Guess I am some what lazy or busy as have not searched this and bound to info out there. Anyway we had a nice maid, aged around 50 and was the mother of a friend of my partner. She was with us for 3 weeks and requested permission to visit her home town (4 hours away) for all saints. Of course we agreed and sent her off with a full months salary P3K. Now as many have guessed by now she did not return, no bad words, no complaints just does not want to come back....She had own room, personal shower CR and washing machine pretty good life as no cooking just tidy up and cleaning. She loved working in garden which suited.... Anyway how do you guys find maids? We have asked around and in spite of many difficult situations seems nobody is interested to work.... We are away a lot and really more concerned with having a person live in than a worker. Any suggestions taken on board.

Popular Post Jake Posted November 5, 2015 Popular Post Posted November 5, 2015 Now as many have guessed by now she did not return, no bad words, no complaints just does not want to come back Obviously your long lost maid was afraid to explain herself before she took off on you. Please educate your wife or GF about placing her on the blacklist. More often than not, they do come back and acting like nothing happened. They would either deny it or act really forgetful and will start crying to accept her back. The crocodiles tears plus OA (over acting) is the accepted norm to test your resolve. Go find another one with explicit written instructions (in her dialect) about her terms of employment. Also, if she is going to cook for you or take care of any young children, please make sure she is medically cleared and that she maintains personal hygiene. Respectfully -- Jake
Popular Post Dave Hounddriver Posted November 5, 2015 Popular Post Posted November 5, 2015 When my previous gf and I would hire maids, it was very common to lose them in one of 2 ways: First, another foreigner would see how well they worked and offer them more (other foreigners can be your worst enemy for stealing employees or gfs  ) Second, they would go home for a visit and listen to all the gossip like: Is that all they pay you, he is rich and should pay you . Or So and So gets XXXX from her foreigner so you should quit. With these kinds of problems it is hard to keep a long term maid unless there is a very good rapport between wife and maid. Because that relationship is needed between wife and maid, it is important that she be the one to do the finding of the maids. Hubby needs to dump this on her and give her some flexibility with the budget. We all read on here about how cheap maids are but you only get what you pay for and some of the best maids are getting way more than what you read about on forums like this or in newspaper articles. Such is MHO.

They were distant relatives and after only a few days of work, they would decide to ask for a 50% raise. We paid more than average and certainly treated them better than a Filipino family would. Oh well, I'm off to clean the kitchen and wash my pants now :cheersty:

Having businesses in the Philippines, I have learned that great employees are plentiful, but they are still hard to find and you really cannot trust a normal employee unless you know them very well and have a face-to-face relationship. In my experience, employees in the Philippines will swap jobs for as little as US$20 extra a month. Once you prepay them, you have lost ALL control. But, once you find loyal and dedicated employees and done a little give and take, once you show alot of trust and they reciprocate, you have an employee who will literally do anything for your company/family.
forget_it Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 The best maid, is no maid, if you can make it without one. Experienced all the problems listed here and more. In the long run, it's safer and cheaper to do without help. Also, the wife has almost lost the 25 pounds she gained while we tried to keep a maid for 2 years.

You sound like Chris....not sure if you guys are bragging or trolling, but it must be quite a let down to marry a foreigner and end up scrubbing floors all day. Oh well, different strokes for different folks. :cheersty:
