The boss has nailed it.  I cannot understand anyone who joins a Forum and then makes no input.  This is a great forum, with great members in the main and full of information.  I consider myself fortunate to have joined.

Me also!  Glad I located and joined this group of knowledgeable fun people :tiphat:

I was astounded to see the number of members enrolled in this forum simply because the thread writing group number often seems to be quite limited. I am not complaining, just surprised a bit.

When you jump cultures, you usually feel a strong need for both good information and a positive social network to make your life easier and run more smoothly. This forum supplies both in generous abundance.

   I value it highly.

The Pareto Principle, or 80/20 rule would partially explain the ratio of contributors to silent members, but I'm still surprised thats it seems even lower than that, since I consider this a 'survival' or vital, life-style adaption site.

I don't know what the stats actually are. Perhaps most members are too busy living life to contribute, or perhaps prefer anonymous readings for private, personal reasons. This appears to be a self-selected group of fairly confident and self-assured individuals, highly independent, but willing to lend a helping hand to those who are following in their footsteps into a strange life in a strange land (compared to what most are accustomed to).

Another reason why I like this forum/info exchange is: Even though I meet sporadically with 40-50 ex-pats that live in the immediate provincial area/getting around seems to eat up a lot more time than I am used to for personal contact.. The forum web-site eliminates the distance factor.

I don't know about you or your situations, but getting around is a tough go for me. Since I choose not to own a vehicle or drive here, anything beyond a 10km range via our regular service trike, calls for running a gamut of jeepneys, buses, taxis, flag down trikes and foot work. Wait time for scheduled ferries, bangkas, jets etc can be considerable. So I seldom venture off-island anymore unless its for something really special. After 13 years, I'm now 'cured' of the penchant for in-country travel quests and adventures.

Case in point:  Took the asawa for a 'strange resort foray' vacation for the first time in 3 years since we finally had some 'extra moaney'... I moan when we spend it.

Getting across the island took 7 or 8 hours each way door-to-door.  It was.... reg. service trike, bus, jeepney, jeepney, bus, public trike, and walk 200 meters uphill.... Ta-Daaa... the resort desk. On the return I shelled out P225 for a taxi and by-passed the 2 low cost jeepney leg experiences. $o for our 4 day vacation (nice place), we spent 2 days traveling. Hopefully my wife will not want a 'vacation' for another year or two, especially since she felt sick by the time we got home, claiming that it was due to all the A/C in the resort room and return buse rides.

A much needed break from daily routines. What was that?..... Yes! "Its More Fun (of a different kind than what you wer expecting) in Da Phippines".

   IMHO.

There's 214 pages of members @ 20/per page. That totals 4,280. I don't know the history or age of this web-site, but thats a real community of voluntary enrollees who share a common interest. There is strength in numbers. Welcome to the Borg.

(By the way, the other day as I was doing warm-ups on the third floor outside balcony of my gym, an ex-pat down on the streert waved up at me. I thought he was someone I knew and motioned to the side entry stairway. He came up and I then realized that he was a friendly stranger.

"I always wave at foreigners I don't know." he told me. This guy was in need of some ex-pat contacts for whatever reason.

He introduced himself and his FIlipina wife. They were from San Diego and often visited her fmily here, but only rented for the duration since they were still too young to retire here. I agreed with his strategy of renting away from family, and when he told me his last name was "Borg", and I launched into some jokes about the sci-fi series of hive mentality aliens of that name. I asked him if he now knew that his wife was '3 of 10" ... reference to her family's socialism network.... and he laughed, while looking at his wife. A play on his surname that hit home when he came to explore his wife's culture. Little did he knew, since he met her in California, that he was about to venture into true 'Borg territory'.

They were flying back to the USA in a few days and I told him to check out this web-site.)
