This is a topic that I feel is an extension of the one started by Dave.  I thought it would be best to separate it for the purpose of discussion.

My SO sen me an article being discussed by her collegues in the Education system.  It is an amazing revelation and I urge you to give it a read if not already aware of this subject.

It discusses the amazing wealth of the Tallano/Marcos and Diaz triangle in gold deposits.  In total 640,000 metric tonnes.  You can only fantacise of the vastness of this.  I am sorry but I am  unable to give you the link to the article but google Tallano/Marcos wealth in the Philippines.

This article alludes to the Philippines being the richest country in the world. agreed to by President Bush around 9/11 time.  The Central Minting Bank, Philippines holds over 400,000 metric tonnes of gold, whilst the remainder is held in Switzerland sent there by Marcos/Diaz after 2nd World War.

It is well worth a read.  But more importantly, this gold if properly managed, could drag the Philippines out of poverty and give a new standard of life to the Filipino people.

I never stop being dismayed by the appalling attitudes of Governments, Big Business and their greed and arrogance.

Whether it be Western or otherwise when will someone who comes along and cares for the majority?:89::bash:

Theoretically Mogo I think its called socialism. Its been tried a few times, but always seems to stray from its pure form. Just to much of human nature for a person to get as much as they can as fast as they can.

I have the belief (formulated from just living in Philippines but without tangible evidence) that Philippines is rich in gold, oil and other minerals but the crab mentality will not let anyone get at them in large scale.  I mean no one wants anyone else to have the wealth.

It is possible he was referring to this link, which says similar things

During a talk show in a U.S. TV the week
following the bombing of the New York Twin Towers,
Pres. Bush was asked this question: Which is the
richest country in the world today? With a smile
he said: “The Philippines.” Marcos knew it, but he
could not talk.
