This is a topic that I feel is an extension of the one started by Dave.  I thought it would be best to separate it for the purpose of discussion.

My SO sen me an article being discussed by her collegues in the Education system.  It is an amazing revelation.

It discusses the amazing wealth of the Tallano/Marcos and Diaz triangle in gold deposits.  In total 640,000 metric tonnes.  You can only fantacise of the vastness of this.  I am sorry but I am  unable to give you the link to the aritcle but google Tallano/Marcos wealth in the Philippines.

This article alludes to the Philippines being the richest country in the world. agreed to by President Bush around 9/11 time.  The Central Minting Bank, Philippines holds over 400,000 metric tonnes of gold, whilst the remainder is held in Switzerland sent there by Marcos/Diaz after 2nd World War.

It is well worth a read.  But more importantly, this gold if properly managed, could drag the Philippines out of poverty and give a new standard of life to the Filipino people.

Nobody ever took anything Bubba Bush said seriously. There are as many Bushisms as there are Yogi Berras.

You have focused on one phrase which is a shame.  Did you try and google the article.  It is not about what George Bush said (like who cares) but he was commenting on his apparent knowledge and indeed what many more countries and economists know to be fact.

It was not an article out of a comic book.  I was endeavouring to get discussion from those that havee some knowledge of the veracity of the article or their historical knowledge.

I thought it was an interesting article that would bring to informative discussion to the forum.

I believe she had a lot of shoes and expensive things. What I do know is that she was already a wealthy woman before she married Marcos. Her family is direct descendants of a wealthy family from Spain. Yes, Marcos did make off with a lot of Philippine gold. One can never completely believe everything negative said about Marcos. Much of it is and was coming from the Aquino Clan. His enemies claim one thing, his loyal followers believe otherwise.

Jack, the money you are talking, is pocket money when you read the article.  Has anyone tried to Google it and/or have some knowledge.

Whilst I appreciate the humour gents, I was hoping for some informative comments on the knowledge and truthfulness of this article.

Maybe I am being overly sensitive, but having seen the poverty that is in Phils, if this is indeed the case and the article is factual, then this is a sad indictment upon the Government, whose responsibility is to try and work for the good of the people.

I wonder why the people of Philippines are not asking the questions?

Like General Franco of Spain it is all about belief, Many will say they would sooner liver under either of these people, Marcos or Franco. They Felt safe. Tell me ANY Politician that did not make money out of their Office. Of course it is Pocket money. Out of  Others Pocket  My MIL will tell you she thinks life was Far better then, Certainly better than under the Japs and she has some pretty good stories to tell, Anyone that knows me well enough will know the Book she is refereed to in During the occupation 7 times on the walk from the North of Occidental "  Under The Rising Sun" The Life of an escaping Filipino with an American Family. They too have a long Memory, it is OK for us to Gloat but in the 1940's life was a Darn sight harder, so Macros was a relief as Franco was  in Spain
