Rolling Blackouts in the Philippines

Anyone else being driven crazy by rolling blackouts?

We normally have atleast 1 blackout per day averaging 1.5 hours, I had kinda grown to accept this, but in the last week we have had consistent blackouts from 9am to 1pm, 3pm to 5pm and 9pm to 1am every friggin day.

I dont know what to do about it.

I just do not want to live like this.

Nobody can give me a decent answer to why they happen either. El-Nino, normal, just accept etc etc are the answer I get. Well, I dont want to put up with it.

I have a small 1000w generator, thats ok for running an electric fan, wifi modem and tv but during the night I cannot run it as it is too noisy for the neighbours.

Honestly, I am fed up with it. I cant imagine how much it costs the economy with all these small shops closed and business not being able to operate.

Anyway, whinge over...

We have rolling brownouts here as well, for months now. The drought that El Niño is causing obviously has an effect on the hydro electric power system. So to conserve energy the brownouts have to be regular. Here they are run by each Barangay in rotation so that each has one, or sometimes more, at varied times. I'm afraid there is not a lot you can do except repeat the mantra...it's more fun in the Philippines!

I was without power about 4 times in 11 months in Sibulan, Negros Oriental. I was wondering where all the brownouts I was hearing about went?

we have a 3000w generator we got cheap from a couple moving to the US.

have never used it yet but had a brown out on weds from 5.30pm till 06.00 am ! and no gas !!

and its not wired up anyway !:console:and we are thinking of selling it

apparently it was caused by the road widening on the national Highway.

we use a solar lighting system for the back garden and which is very good.

so we are going to be like the yanks and go full solar with battery backup using a 1000 = 3000w inverter sytem

there are several options avail here locally inc ready built systems in large plastic boxes already wired !

as in pic and comes complete with solar panels from 19,0000 pesos upwards

we dont use Aircon much anymore so the largest usage would be the kettle during the day and fridges ( 2)

and fans in the bedroom at night .

our meralco bill averages around 1300 php a month using my modified fan system against 3000+ last year with aircon !

but id its all solar then meralco can go and !!:chickendance::chickendance::chickendance:

The Philippines just does not have the power to supply so many homes. This happens during a hot season but "Brownouts" are common here all the time. We never know when. We just have to be prepared for the long ones. That's why so many people hangout at the mall.

Another reason why I hate it here. OOPS, no sorry, I meant another reason why I miss my home in the states.

Ya have to laugh because I just read that all the people pushing solar power back into the grid is overloading the system with too much power.  I'd look for the link but I'm lazy, however I'll go find mine if you show me yours :hystery:

I expected another "Brownout" this morning while I was watching The Masters Golf tournament on TV. We had been having one every morning around 4:30 and they have lasted from half an hour to an hour. Not this morning. I hope not the next 3 mornings either.

It even rained today for about 15 minutes. Not a heavy rain but it was refreshing.
