Is that a NIPA HUT?  I like it. Is that your "guest room"?  Nice.

Looks nice!

At the resort we visit they have the same roofs with the green nets, and they are always full of tree ants.  It would probably be a good idea to proactively treat for ants.

What beers are available at this establishment?

Ahh-but isn't Jake's "dog house" set a lot, lot further from the main house and a lot less elaborate? :89:

We also have a bahay kubo or nipa hut that we had built in our yard, but with a cement flooring. The netting is placed over the roof to help to keep the nipa  roof from coming apart or blowing away in a windstorm. We purchased a wood preservative called Solignum that treats the wood and keeps small insects from eating the bamboo and wood parts of the roof. If you ever see a powder around the floor of bamboo items you know that the tiny insects are eating away at the bamboo.

We have used this for our bamboo beds underneath, and some bamboo furniture, and it has helped a lot to keep these insects at bay. It's used quite often here in the Philippines to treat wood. You just brush it on like a varnish.

Queenie O, I read or some told me that you can soak the bamboo in a salt brine?..to keep insects from dining.

Also have you any knowledge of coconut lumber being impervious to insects?

Gerald, the carpenters requested that we purchase the solignum and they painted the coco lumber eaves in the nipa hut, so I guess it does preserve and protect them. My husband recently built some coco lumber benches for the garden, and he didn't use it to treat them, but he did them. No visible insect trouble there.

Romantic that I am, I requested that a local craftsman build me two big beds and five side tables. We submerged and soaked those babies right here for hours out in the sea at our house. Twice!

Even though the furniture was painted and some varnished with regular lacquer, the insects chewed away.

Only the application of solignum stopped them. Funny though, on a couple of the small tables, they did not show insect trouble, even though they were built at the same time, and treated the same way. I don't know why they were untouched.

Bamboo is so pretty and native looking, but we have found that it does require some extra care.
