My new beau lives in a bamboo hut. She is trying to talk me into moving to philippines to live with her. I am going in December to stay a month in leyte with her. Not sure how  this will be. She says that I can install a shower but not sure how that would work with bamboo. I am 3rd generation army brat but was a no go so i figure this will be like bivouacking for a month. Also I have couple pics from 1 and 2 plus korea if anyone every wants to see

For me My Friend, it will Certainly be an Adventure for you and It will Give you the Answer to the Question you may be asking, "Is she the girl for me." if you can survive the month in a natural surrounding and not a 5* hotel, I guess you will have the answer.

Best of Luck and if I can,(DEC is a long way Off yet) but let us know how it works out

Yes I have, but I am sure you don't want to hear about Army survival training in the jungles of Panama. Had a great time, but I was 24, 7 foot 2 inches, lean 190 pounds, chest covered with more hair than an Indian blanket, could eat raw snake and drink scummy pond water all day and drink warm beer all night.........but now? NO WAY!:56da64b0e8139_36_1_471:

My first rental here was bamboo - but not exactly a hut.  It was a bamboo 1 bedroom house, with a cement floor.   We had to add a cr. There was no bathroom at all before we got it.  It cost under $500 USD to get the cr added (get it built, connected to the house, septic tank etc).

The biggest issues we had was bugs & noise.  There were no windows so it was like living outside.  We could do nothing to keep the bugs out.  And it was such an open design the noisy neighbors... were very noisy.  I now live about a hundred meters down down the same path but in a solid cement house.  Much more comfortable, and quieter, but I liked the bamboo house.

Depends on what she means by bamboo hut.  :cheersty:

I've spent the night a few times in a hut located in southern Leyte. It had electricity a cement floor and a small sink and toilet you use a plastic bucket to flush the toilet and to "shower". It was fine for us for a few days because we had a fan.

If the place has electricity then it could be workable not quite camping out. Is washing outside at a pump type well or facut is OK for you? If you have anything of value you would not be able to leave it in the hut if you go away.

has electric and toilet but no shower. thought about buying 55 gallon barrel and hooking it to tree after putting open off spout on it or maybe even putting on stilts and building stall. but it would probably hurt someone next tsunami knowing my luck.
