Good morning all,

I will be in Manila tomorrow night and then to Angeles, Visayas, there for 3 weeks.  What is the best value mobile phone deal prepaid?  Thank you for your help.

 Heavy user? Need data? I used to buy 500 php Globe load at Galeon Sales in Dumaguete Robinson's Mall and I would get a 10 peso discount and 85 free texts. You may not be able to get the discount and free texts everywhere. If you turn data off on your phone and only check e-mails every few hours or so, 500 php will last a long time. I used to load 1k a month but my phone was also my only internet connection and I would use data for hours at a time, otherwise 500 php would last me 2 months just calls text and checking e-mail 3 times a day. If you have any left of the 500 you could send it to someone so it doesn't go to waste.

If you are in cities all the time then it won't matter what phone sim you use but some areas of the province are best serviced by Globe.

I would say, in the cities, the best mobile wifi deal at this moment is Smart's '4G' pocket Wifi for only 888 pesos (look for it as they sell the same thing for thousands of pesos when not on sale.  Retail sale price is in BIG numbers on the box when you find the right one.)  You will seldom find 4G to connect to but I frequently get more than 1MBPS with it.

You dont get much data with the Smart thingy tho and reception is bad or non existent outside of big citys.

Id say get a Globe prepaid and depending on what you need (calls, txt or internet) get bonus packs. Globe comes with free FB (no pictures tho).

Have you got a dual sim phone? Best option in my opinion as you can have a globe and smart service if one should not be working well but that's not what you asked about so I will crawl in my hole now.

For years I've used Smart and their Mega250 prepaid plan. I don't voice call much and I have a pocket WiFi (that can use any SIM card) that I mainly use for data (Smart or Globe unli for 30 days for just under 1k php)

Mega250 =30 days - Unli texts to all networks, 180 minutes talk time to other Smart, SUN and TNT users and 180MB data.

To get it: load your phone with 250 pesos ( I usually get the p300 prepaid card) then text MEGA250 to 2477

I presume you'll be staying in hotels so you can use their WiFi for checking emails, etc and only data on the phone for checking google maps when you get lost, lol, or when the hotels' WiFi is out of order. 

Unless you get an unli data plan BE SURE TO TURN OFF YOUR CELLULAR DATA! Otherwise your data will be eaten as about every 15 - 30 minutes the server gets pinged, which of course uses data.

Thanks for the info, 500 seems more than I will need, as I only want to contact a few people here, send a few txt messages, SO will be talking to family and friends, so maybe a smaller amount will suffice.  Globe seems to be popular?

Yes I have dual SIM JGF - it also has twin exhaust, is that a good thing?????

Thanks guys, I will use Globe, SO will also get one as she will be speaking to family etc.

Now in Manila, the hotel room is so small, I had to go outside to change my mind! What a nightmare Airport to Makati last night, one hour 620p for taxi metered, but the yellow ones we have now been advised have faster meters.  It was 10pm when we got there, tired, no one wants to steer you to the cheaper taxis, but suspect you cannot get them at the Airport?  

Still we are here and looking forward to our 2.5 weeks in Phils.

I use Globe. For p209 a month you can get 1,000 text to all networks - not unlimited by may as well be... It does not include phone or internet, though. When you have a promo loaded the free FB includes data (pics)
