Popular Post intrepid Posted April 22, 2016 Popular Post Posted April 22, 2016 (edited) The time is getting shorter and all the planing has come together so far. We have five full days before leaving on the 28th. Our friends have a large party planed Sat evening and my family another Sunday afternoon. Our daughter has school on Monday and a half day Wednesday. Everything has been shipped and all our bags are packed. Just a little adjusting for weight of the bags. I think all our paperwork is in order and just in case the airline does not like my US issued Philippine Visa I purchased a rental onward ticket. I'm not going to show it unless asked so I will know what their decision is about the visa. My son and his family are moving into our home so all the furnishings are staying along with everything else we decided not to ship. There is plenty of "stuff" to still get rid of. What we did not sell or give away will stay and my son can sell or dispose of what he doesn't want. Still hard to believe that all the years of planing and waiting are all but here. My stress level is still low at maybe just 5-10%. Today I called United Airlines customer service to confirm a things and of course their call center is located in Manila. The girl reminded me of the current heat and I asked her if she could cool it off for our arrival. She said many are praying for that. So I'm hoping since it should be at the hottest when we arrive,... the temperature can only get cooler? Well I can hope. Ready or not, unfinished or completed projects, will be left behind and we will be western bound shortly! We are 12 months behind you regrettably but just arrived in Phils to establish where we will actually settle, it lookis like it is between Iloilo and Dumaguete - we will make a decision when we have concluded our stay here in 2.5 weeks. Then like you, we will set a date a bit down the line and we will just leave Thailand behind. I admire you for your decision and committment, well done.

My only advice is to keep a journal so you can share some of your initial experiences with us on this forum. Congrats dude!
Queenie O. Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Best wishes on the beginning of your new adventure here. Have a safe trip and happy landing in your new home. You've already missed part of the dry season, so yes you're already a little ahead there:) Take care, Queenie
PaulB Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 I agree with bows00 it would be great the hear how your arrival, settling in, finding a home and all the other practical details go. I have a place in North Luzon but not moved 100% yet as working in UAE but will do in 3 years and would be great to learn from your experience. Best wishes and I hope it all goes well. Paul Thanks everyone for the well wishes and interest in my new adventure. We always hope for the best that everything works out but I am well aware of the way things operate in the Philippines and the challenges ahead. I think, . Okay guys, I understand how helpful it can be. These are the things I have enjoyed reading and learning from over the years here on the forum. I plan to do just that as time, energy, and internet allows. We plan to purchase a new vehicle asap after arrival. Along this same time period will be the customs thing and receiving all our "stuff". This is the one thing which one never knows how it could turn out. Follow all the rules, fill out all the proper paperwork, contract all the right people, and still whammy,... "Sorry Sir, this is not allowed, and please pay Php XXX,XXX and we may release you "stuff". This is the one issue I hope I can report back with good results. Hoping anyway. Next will be getting our daughter registered for school which starts in June. We have already been in contact with the school and have her testing date. So we also need to find a home to rent in Sta Rosa since we want to be close to her school and also where we hope to buy land and build our home. Ideally we would like to start building no later than January 2017. A lot going on and a lot to be done. So, I still have a pretty good memory and I will also keep some notes so when I have time and internet I can report the progress. For now I have to get ready for the big Phil-Am going away party at 4PM. about 150 expected. Last nights small party was only about 30. One last party Sunday afternoon with final family and friends. Then 3 days rest before catching our flight.
