Well there's usually two chips in the key. One to send the signal to unlock/alarm on-off and one for immobilizer. Of course the "Mr quickie key" wont open the door remotly as its lacking that chip. Manually puting the key in the lock and turning still opens it.

The immobilizer chip is an anti-theft system thats installed in most new cars (and in meny countries you are requiered to install it by law if the car didn't have it installed in the factory). It sends a signal to the car while you try to start it that is "ok to start". Without the immobilizer chip in your key the car wont start - cuts the circuit off. You should be able to start the car with the "Mr quickie key" aslong as you have the original key with the chip right next to you (comes handy if you happen to brake the original key like i did). The chip transmits a small radius signal. I had to use a key without a immobilizer chip when i broke my original key. Had the cheap key in the ignition and the broken key ontop of the ignition and it started. Got me into the key shop to have a new key made and both chips transfered, so that worked well for me.

The immobilizer in my Toyota came with a Immobilizer programming tag. With that tag anyone with the proper gear and know-how could program more chips if you needed the keys. Maybe Suzuki doesn't provide the tags, because they want to charge you a steep fee to have it done in their dealership.

My immobilizer might have been an aftermarket one tho and maybe thats why they gave me the tag. Cant remember and the car is 15000km awey at the moment :D.

With new car purchases is all routine preventive maintenance done at the dealership?

looks like we need to be careful on this site as well

Blind Freddy can see it's not a Suzuki Ertiga, it's actually a Classic Bentley. I apologize if you did not appreciate my humor. :console:

Yup we love ours .... had it for about 5 months .... we got the automatic with overdrive .... peppy little thing .... we also got the roof rack with free seat covers and floor mats from the dealer ..... BE ADVISED .... should you want an extra key made as we did it will take you 2 months to get it (ordered from India) .... then you have to get it cut as the key alone is about p5000 and Mr. Quickie usually won't do them because if they make a mistake it will ruin their day as they will have to buy you a new one .... after getting it cut you wait for the Suzuki computer tech to come and program the key (p1200) .... that took about 2 weeks ....

So why did we need another key when you get 2 with the car.... simple I carry one J caries one and the spare is for emergencies should we loose both ... slim chance but with the length of time it takes to get another one you will wait about 4-5 months with no car ....

OH and you can have a new key made in Mr. Quickie but it will only unlock the door manually .... not electronically and it will not start the car (ain't modern technology great) ..... so don't loose your key .... :SugarwareZ-004:

So enjoy your new APV .... we do .... :cornflakes:

I have a 2006 Chrysler and I had to repair one of the keys electronics which no longer worked. One of the battery holder leads had to be soldered. This required reprogramming the key afterward. I just had to insert the key in the ignition and do a bunch of special key presses in a certain order. Found out how to do it on the internet. Depends of course on the car make and model.

Yes there is a programming tag  included which is in our safe.

Well we have finally got our new car ! A white Suzuki Ertiga .

bit of a fiasco getting it we went to the Lipa Suzuki to look at an  APV but none in stock ! well any other colour but white !

they had a grey Ertiga in the showroom which we liked but the wife wanted white !

the salesgirl made a phone call and told us there was a white one avail in Manila  ( No there was not !! ) we paid 5000 php deposit  !

we got a phone call the next day telling us there were no white Ertigas avail until May 12th when the new 2016 models are released !

brother in law goes shopping in SM Calamba and on Sunday there is a Suzuki display and he is told they can get us a white Suzuki by the end of the week !!

so off we goes to Suzuki Calamba and orders a new 2016 White  Ertiga which was in the " Factory " in Calamba  after a week we get a phone call saying

we can pick up the car ! The sister signed all the paperwork as did me and the wife , and after 2 cups of coffee and waiting for the guy to tint the windows

we had our new car !!

we are still waiting for seat covers !

And the GPS SD card ! which is meant to be an optional extra ! and at a cost of 8200 php !

but after I sent an email to Suzuki head office the SD card is now free ! just waiting for a phone call now to pick them up !

in the meantime we bought new made to measure seat covers from RL designs in Ace Hardware !

mind you its a lovely car !

Congratulations and happy motoring.  That was only  a  minor hiccup according to locals living in Phils, regarding your car purchase.  I actually had a loook at that car in Dumaguete on Saturday, nice car, am sure you will enjoy it.

Good cars Suzuki.

In the PI,  they don't drive on the same side of the street as they do in UK.  ( smile )

Seems to me they drive on both sides, the middle, the sidewalks, and through any gas station that happens to be on the way.  But of course you are right, we should drive on the right side.

In Davao city, there are no parking lots except at the malls. So, most people just park their cars on the sidewalk and people have to walk in the street.

I've never seen a tow truck either when I was there. So, where ever a car gets a flat or needs repair it's done right there where the vehicle stops.
