Queenie O. Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 I have a lot of different hobbies that I like to do now that I have the time to really enjoy them. I love my tropical garden, and starting seeds, cooking and baking, reading, sewing, snorkeling, shell collecting, among many others. Of course we all like to spend time on the internet too. Do any of you folks living here have any particular hobbies that you enjoy doing while living here? For those future expats, any dream hobbies or current hobbies that you'd like to pursue more, once you're living here and have more free time? Please share if you'd like, and we'll leave out man/women chasing from the equation!LOL Queenie
Popular Post Tukaram (Tim) Posted May 4, 2016 Popular Post Posted May 4, 2016 My problem is that I have what I call "hobby attention deficit disorder (HADD). I have way too many hobbies, so I don't really get good at anything ha ha I play the bowed psaltery, harmonica, and recorder. I juggle, do magic tricks, and bicycle. In my nest balikbayan box (being packed now) I have a quadcopter coming (with video camera). I also dabble in C++ coding for a computer game I play - and just getting started to make Android Apps. And of course I love to cook. But as long as I have some monsters to kill on the internet... I am fine.
intrepid Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 I have many hobbies also. Model ship building, machining, along with general repairing, fixing, and building. However, everything and all is on hold as we just arrived in the Philippines this past Saturday. So for now the new hobby has turned to rental house searching, vehicle buying, getting our daughter registered for school, and in general just getting settled. Besides, all my regular hobby "stuff" is still enroute and not expected for about four more weeks. Even then I'm not planing on hobby playing for about a year. After we get our house built and I have my shop/hobby room set up. Till then I just want to spend my time exploring, relaxing, and adjusting.
MikeSwede Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 My hobbies used to be computers and radio transmitters. Since they suddenly turned into a profession, I should warn about getting "too good" at your hobby. You end up a pro, one without a hobby... I am thinking of taking up star gazing, I heard they hang around certain clubs in town. Or, more seriously, I want to experiment with different fruit trees/bushes that normally do not grow here. That will keep me busy until my later years, I am sure.

I'd be in trouble then too:)

For example sometimes if a person cooks for a hobby someone will say "You should open a restaurant!" That could then ruin your hobby I would think.:) You're funny about "star gazing":) Here at our place and in a lot of other places, if you look up at the night sky there is mostly an unobstructed view at night. Real" star" star gazing could be another potential hobby:) You'd have to know what you were looking at though..

I probably will be a lot better identifying heavenly bodies than famous bodies. When I am fully settled I will get my tube setup again, always keep one on a tripod for thise extra spectacular moments, or otherwise dull evenings.
davewe Posted May 4, 2016 Posted May 4, 2016 Guitar making, general woodworking/wood finishing and an obsessive interest in old woodworking hand tools. While I have gotten rid of a lot of stuff in anticipation of the move, I still have a feeling what is left will take up more BB boxes than anything else we intend to ship.
